Candidates should be passionate about SACS’s mission and vision and have a proven track record of achieving academic success with a diverse student body.POSITION SUMMARYThe Student Success Coach is a caring, skilled individual who acts as a consistent touchpoint to support a roster of students identified in the newly-created Navigation program. Using the “BRYT” (Building for Resilient Youth in Transition Model) as a guide, the Student Success Coach is responsible for improving student outcomes by providing short-term, targeted and individualized interventions, aiming to get students back into their regular academic classes more seamlessly after extended absences while equipping them with needed social emotional skills. The Student Success Coach works in partnership with the Student Services Team. The Student Services Team is an interdisciplinary school leadership team, whose purpose is to ensure that teachers and students receive the support they need to meet our mission of preparing college-ready individuals of strong character. The Student Success Coach is primarily responsible for serving as academic support (partnering with teachers to develop an academic plan, helping students manage school work, and providing basic tutoring) as well as offering family support via frequent communication with families, crisis support, and informal family education.Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is Congress’s directive to schools receiving federal funding from the United States Department of Education to prohibit discrimination based on disability from all aspects of school operation. The law states, “No otherwise qualified individual with a disability shall solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”Section 504 is a civil rights statute which protects the civil and constitutional rights of persons with disabilities. Section 504 focuses on assuring access to all of the district's programs and activities, including the educational services and the learning process that is equal to that given to students who do not have disabilities. Therefore, it is the primary responsibility of regular education staff and administration to implement those practices and procedures necessary for a school to fulfill the law’s requirements.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESIn collaboration with the Dean of Students, the Principals and the Student Services Team, the Student Success Coach and 504 Coordinator will develop the competencies of a roster of students in the Navigation program in the realm of academic readiness and executive functioning in order to get them back into their regular academic classes. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:being a champion who is relentless in the pursuit of student success for those students temporarily in the Navigation programbeing the consistent touchpoint person in the Navigation Room, where students land after an extended absencedeveloping meaningful relationships with students and familiestracking attendance, academic progress, and executive functioning through modeling resilience and organizational skillsdeveloping with students through motivational interviews daily and weekly goals, then monitoring and documenting progress for weekly reports (narratives on attendance, behavior, progress towards goals, and targeted interventions) shared with appropriate stakeholderspartnering with teachers to develop an academic plan, helping students manage school work, and providing basic tutoringimplementing and overseeing a Social and Emotional Curriculum for the students in the Navigation Roomoverseeing the day-day-day logistics of the Navigation Room to maintain an environment that fosters calm and focus, upholding Salem Academy classroom and student expectationsworking with staff, students, and families to promote a safe and supportive school cultureadministering behavior plans and other supports as neededensure Federal Compliance for Section 504 including identification, evaluation, and implementationresponsible for knowing the law and keeping up with changes to the law and legal trends with 504 decisions and sharing those changes with Administration; attend legal training.create and keep SACS 504 documents updated; maintain system and records for due dates to ensure compliance.approve and confirm that all 504 eligibility decisions are accurate, compliant, and carefully documented.meet on an ongoing basis with the Lower/Upper School principal to ensure compliance with Section 504 oversee Initial and Annual 504 Review Meetings.collaborate with building staff for appropriate and meaningful classroom accommodations and present updates to grade level teamswork with nurses to develop Health Plans when warrantedmeet with parents to explain 504 processesensuring that 504 plans and accommodations are implemented with fidelitysupport faculty in understanding and implementing individual 504 plansmaintaining 504 plan recordstracking and scheduling annual 504 plan meetingsattending evening events (e.g. Back to School Night, PTS Conferences, Graduation, other events as needed)KEY QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degreecommitment to Salem Academy’s mission and core valuesexperience with diverse middle and high school student populationsproven ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staffexcellent written and verbal communication skillssuperior organization, attention to detail, and records management skillsstrong classroom management and ability to model school normsunderstanding of student developmental needswillingness to engage in honest, reflective dialogue and to approach conflict and criticism in an appropriate, professional, and direct mannerwillingness and ability to maintain the highest degree of behavioral expectations for all studentsfluency in Spanish preferred and valuedthree or more years of education experience (at least one year at Salem Academy) preferred
