Job Summary:
The Technical Director is a Subject Matter Expert who provides leadership for maintaining/growing existing clients and development of new markets via five Core Accountability Roles:
  • Maintain and develop existing key client relationships
  • Drive new client relationships
  • Develop strategic markets within Subject Matter of Expertise
  • Act as Principal In Charge for your clients and market segment proposals and projects.
  • Mentor and train staff
The Technical Director is accountable to Senior Management for the proper execution of professional responsibilities in accordance with Ownership Values, Quality, and Project Management processes and procedures.
Contribute directly to the Salas O’Brien vision and play a key role in its implementation through participation in the Facilities Leadership Team. This role reports to the Facilities Operations Director.
In this role, you will
The successful candidate must be highly motivated, capable of working in a self-directed manner and must be a subject matter expert to provide leadership for maintaining/growing existing clients and development of new markets.
  • Provide Power and Controls Subject Matter Expert guidance to Electrical Engineers and Designers
  • Lead the electrical discipline team on projects and proposals.
  • Apply an entrepreneurial spirit and technical expertise to guide clients through creative engineered solutions.
  • Maintain technical expertise in your field by attending training, professional organization events, reading technical articles, etc.
  • Provide thought leadership to the department.
Maintain and Develop Existing Key Client Relationships
  • Leverage relationships with current key clients within your Subject Matter of Expertise to maintain and grow business
  • Actively engage as client advocate to maximize relationship between company and client
  • Create client retention and development strategy and mentor operations group in rolling it out and maintaining it.
Drive New Client Relationships
  • Drive growth and diversity in business by:
  • Developing new clients and contacts in new and existing markets within or associated with Subject Matter of Expertise
  • Work with other SME’s to support strategic plan for expanding role of company with existing clients within or associated with Subject Matter of Expertise
Develop your Strategic Market(s)
  • Create, implement, and execute the strategy, plan and approach to develop your market(s) that are consistent with Salas O’Brien vision.
  • Initiate and pursue new market opportunities within your Strategic Market.
  • Analyze your markets for opportunities that fit Salas O’Brien’s capabilities and/or future plan. Determine amount of capacity in markets, identify typical market cycle, identify hurdles to entry into new opportunities and quantify resources required to excel in market.
  • Initiate and direct multi-discipline Business Development efforts in your strategic market(s).
  • Possess and/or develop SME level experience in your current and future markets.
  • Create relationships with other providers, peers, SMEs, vendors, etc. to drive Salas O’Brien brand in your markets.
  • Perform studies to define concepts and to create and refine proposal opportunities.
  • Take leadership role in trade shows, write papers, and perform speaking engagements to establish credibility as an SME.
Act as Principal in Charge for Specific Market Segment Projects and Proposals
  • Participate in qualification package preparation and client presentations.
  • Lead concept development for new proposals in your strategic market as needed. Support detailed proposal activities by others. Act as final review for strategic value and technical content of proposals as needed.

  • Maintain relationship with and contact with clients during project execution to ensure project scope and technical approach adheres to approved project baseline scope.
  • Develop and train staff by taking an active role in developing and mentoring key Team Members to manage client account
  • Work with Operations Group to develop technical and market-specific training protocol and conduct Salas O’Brien seminars and lunch and learns for client and staff.
  • Support Salas O’Brien’s training and mentoring program (coordinated through the Senior Operations Director) to develop resources for your markets.
You will be a great fit if:
  • You are highly motivated, capable of working in a self-directed manner and have strategic thinking ability.
  • Bachelors or advanced degree in engineering or applied sciences with twenty or more years’ experience in the field of engineering.
  • The Technical Director must possess a professional engineering license or PMP accreditation, or a similar level of qualifications, competency, or accreditation.
  • Ten or more years’ experience with project management in similar markets and/or direction of professional and technical personnel in similar market.
  • Strong written and communicational skills are essential.
Skills/abilities:
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills, and is sensitive to the need to change their personal behavior quickly when needed to effectively communicate and coordinate with others

Location: Columbus Ohio or Remote/ Hybrid- Remote (Considered)
Work will primarily be performed in an office environment. Work may occasionally be performed at construction sites or areas, operating manufacturing facilities, and clients' offices
Travel: Work may involve travel to clients' facilities.
