St. Simons By-The-Sea Hospital is seeking an Unit Coordinator, who manages the clerical functions of the nursing unit necessary to provide patient care At times, the Unit Coordinator will work as a MHT on the adolescent unit. Must possess knowledge of dual diagnosis/chemical dependency/mental health patients; age-specific patient issues, limit setting and behavior management, crisis prevention and intervention techniques; knowledge and comprehension of regulatory agency standards (DOH, DPW, CMS, Joint Commission, etc.); staff development procedures and requirements; ability to communicate orally, telephonically, and in writing; working knowledge of computer systems and various software; must maintain certification CPR, Verbal De-Escalation, and CPI. Must possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to be a team player. Good documentation, organization and time management skills are necessary. Must be effective in decision-making and problem solving.
Other responsibilities, but not limited to, are:
  • Assists in the direct care and management of patients with medical and behavioral issues as directed by the treatment team.
  • Assists with unit programming to facilitate the carryover of therapy issues, leisure activities, and activities of daily living for patients on the unit.
  • Act as a role model in using appropriate counseling skills by de-escalating aggression, using active listening skills, using appropriate tone and volume of voice, providing a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and promoting a positive peer culture.
  • Escort patients to work, mealtime, outdoor/indoor recreation, smoke breaks (if applicable), and education activities and participates in their supervision and instruction as needed.
  • Transports patients to and from medical appointments or other activities as directed. Maintain safety and security of the facility through close observation and monitoring of the patients, maintaining optimal physical proximity, remaining alert at all times, and using analytical forethought to anticipate potentially volatile or unsafe situations and proactively intervene.
  • Assess and ensures the needs of the patients are being met in relation to clothing, linens, and personal hygiene supplies.
  • Supervises personal hygiene tasks.
