Saint Paul Public Schools is Hiring a Discovery Club Supervisor - Community Education Near Saint Paul, MN

General Information

SPPS is looking for a Supervisor for our Discovery Club program with Community Ed!

Position Summary

Responsible for supervision of the Discovery Club school-age child care program located within Saint Paul Public Schools Department of Community Education.

Reporting Relationship

Works under the supervision of the Director, Community Education

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, community education, child development or a related field and
  • Five years of experience supervising school age child care, Out of School Programs, Community Education Programs or related work experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, community education, child development or a related degree.
  • Associate's degree in education, community education, child development or a related field and nine (9) years of experience supervising school age child care, Out of School Programs, Community Education Programs or related work experience.
  • Supervisor must complete their bachelor's degree within first year of being on the job.
  • Other knowledge, skills, abilities and credentials required for a specific position

Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the fundamental duties listed below:

  • Supervise the development, promotion, implementation and evaluation of the Discovery Club within Saint Paul Public Schools Community Education Department.
  • Supervise the development and implementation of program mission, goals and objectives.
  • Supervise and manage all budgets related to Discovery Club.
  • Supervise program staff including recruitment, selection, assignment, evaluation.
  • Provide leadership in the development of new program sites and programming.
  • Promote and monitor professional development opportunities.
  • Supervise the data collection process and related reporting mechanisms.
  • Establish and implement accountability procedures.
  • Play an active role on the Community Education Leadership Team.
  • Interpret and implement state, city and school district rules and regulations relating to Discovery Club and to school-age child care.
  • Maintain current knowledge of recent research and promising practices in the area of school-age care.
  • Contribute to the District's inclusive workplace efforts by fostering a safe, welcoming, respectful environment.
  • Oversee enrollment activities, communication, and events that foster positive relations families, staff and community.
  • Ensure that Discovery Club locations are safe for children and comply with local, state, and federal laws governing childcare.
  • Lead and organize all Professional Development for staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Community Education.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Works under the supervision of the Director, Community Education
  • Thorough knowledge of school-age child care.
  • Considerable knowledge of the community education process and programs.
  • Working knowledge of computers and software to manage program data, maintain budgets and compile program reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Considerable ability to provide leadership in program development and evaluation.
  • Considerable ability to supervise staff and program organization.
  • Considerable ability to manage a large program budget.
  • Considerable ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of organizations and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent organization, problem-solving and time management skills.

Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule

This is a 12 month position working 40 hours per week.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the ASAP negotiated labor agreement. The labor agreement and salary schedule can be found at https://www.spps.org/Page/33566. The minimum rate of pay for this position is $84,602 annually.

Benefits are available to new employees after 30 days of active employment. Benefits include medical insurance, life insurance, sick leave, pension plan, tax-free retirement account, and flexible spending account.
