Overview
Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach Dance 280: Dance Production in the traditional undergraduate Dance program in Fall 2023.
This course will be taught on the Moraga campus, in person.
This course offers practical backstage crew work, combined with reflection on the ways in which dance is a collaborative and experiential art form. No matter what your level of prior experience, we invite you to deepen your understanding and practice of the specific skills, both technical and relational, that go into technical theatre production. This course introduces students to the roles needed for the backstage crew for a dance concert. Backstage preparation will include one meeting early in the fall semester in which roles will be discussed and disseminated. Next, students will complete tasks to prepare the space for performance which may include hanging and focusing lights, organizing costumes, and laying the dance floor for the fall or spring dance concert. Students will also attend informal showings, technical and dress rehearsals, and final performances both on and off campus. Most of the hours for the course will be consolidated into spacing week, tech week and show week.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have profeesionl experience working in a college environment in production management and technical theatre and an MFA in Dance.
Applicants must be available to attend the following events:
Calendar:
  • Sept 1st, Dance Company meeting in LeFevre Theatre, 1:30-2:30pm
  • September 29th- Senior Project Showing and all Dance Company and Crew Meeting in Syufy, 1:30-2:30 pm
  • November 5th, lay the floor ALL SENIORS and crew Sunday evening; exact time TBD, but it will be after 5:00pm.
  • November 10th- Senior Project Showing and all Dance Company and Crew meeting in LeFevre, 1:30-3:00 pm
  • November 10th- Crew orientation in LeFevre Theatre, 6:15pm - 7:15pm
  • Crew is called for all of the following:
  • November 12th- Tech rehearsal in LeFevre Theatre, 3:00pm - 9:00pm
  • November 13th- Tech rehearsal in LeFevre Theatre, 5:00pm - 10:00pm
  • November 14th- Dress rehearsal in LeFevre Theatre, 5:00 pm-10:00 pm
  • November 15th- Final dress rehearsal in LeFevre Theatre, 6:00 pm-10:00 pm
  • November 17th & 18th, 6:00 pm call, Performances 8 pm
  • November 19th, 12:00 pm call, Performances 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm
  • November 21st -Strike dance floor, lighting booms, and carpet in LeFevre Theatre
Dance faculty are also required to attend dance faculty meetings and will be compensated for those hours.
Candidates must reside in California
The salary is $2,483 - $3,336, depending on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
