The organist/musician must be able to articulate the basic faith of Christ's church, particularly as it relates to worship, music and Lutheran liturgical practices. This is a part time position. Salary is negotiable and will be discussed at interview.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Plans all worship services in collaboration with the pastor for a membership of less than 100.
• Serves as organist/musician for Sunday worship and special services such as Advent, Lent, Holy Week, and Christmas Eve. This includes flexibility with the design and implementation of a contemporary service.
• Plays for member weddings and funerals. Additional pay will be provided by the wedding party. Playing for funerals at the church is part of the salary. If playing at a funeral home, the funeral home pays the fee.
• Supervises the use and maintenance of church-owned musical instruments.
• Maintains an orderly file for church-owned music and related documents while keeping them separate from music that he/she may personally own.
• Purchases needed supplies for the music program by using the music budget as a guide.
• Obtains his/her own substitute if absent on Sundays or for funerals at the church. Substitute contact information shall be made available to the church office and the pastor. The church will pay the substitute fee.
• Recruits and directs participants in the hand bell choir which includes procuring music, holding rehearsals and participating in the worship service(s). Also work with soloists to include practice and direction.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor's Degree in music or education and music equivalent to that of a proficient musician.
• Possess experience, skill and competency in playing the piano, organ and hand bells.
• Knowledge of Lutheran theology, liturgical practices and use of appropriate sacred music in Lutheran worship. Be familiar with the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) and a liturgical format.
• Ability to be a team player with congregational leaders, pastor, and staff by keeping them informed of upcoming events and other pertinent information related to the worship experience at St. Mark's.
