Saint Francis Health System is Hiring a Pharmacy Technician I - Yale - Variable Near Tulsa, OK

This position is ECB status – requires a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department; limited benefit offerings.
Job Summary: The Pharmacy Technician retrieves, packages and labels oral solid, liquid, topical, rectal, injectable and premixed IV medications, phone calls, computer communications, medication delivery, automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) stocking, unit dose packaging, medication storage area inspection and customer service. The Pharmacy Technician may compound non-sterile, sterile and hazardous medications.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: State of Oklahoma Pharmacy Board Technician License in good standing required.

Work Experience: 0 - 6 months experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy or successful completion of Pharmacy Technician program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of pharmacy computer software including medication reordering, ADC's (automated dispensing cabinets), unit-dose packaging and pharmacy inventory retrieval systems. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to prioritize and organize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail-oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Ability to type or perform data entry.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Delivers medication ensuring it is secured until delivered to the requesting care giver or loaded into the appropriate ADC. Ensures that all medication is verified by a pharmacist prior to its delivery. Returns medication to the pharmacy as needed ensuring it is secure until returned to stock or placed in the appropriate waste stream container. Stocks ADC with both standard and patient specific medications using bar code technology when applicable ensuring accuracy. Stocks various medication kits, boxes and trays used throughout the hospital prior to final verification by a pharmacist. Uses bar code technology whenever it is designed into a pharmacy process and reports bar code failures to their immediate supervisor. Inspects medication storage areas as assigned. Answers incoming calls in a timely manner providing assistance when possible or directing the caller to the appropriate pharmacy staff member. Monitors incoming computer messages and takes appropriate action when possible or directs message to the appropriate pharmacy staff member. Retrieves and labels prepackaged oral solid, liquid, rectal, inhalation, topical, injectable, and premixed IV medications using bar code technology when applicable ensuring accuracy. Based on clinical ladder guidelines performs responsibilities related to sterile and hazardous compounding under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and per department policy; also performs non-sterile compounding per department policy.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.

Working Relationships: Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
