Position Summary:
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator is the primary liaison between the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and Saint Andrew’s School. The position is responsible for leading all aspects of the implementation of the MYP, including maintaining authorization and compliance with IB requirements.

The MYP Coordinator collaborates with the Dean of Studies, Head of Middle School, department chairs, and Middle School faculty to develop and implement the MYP scope and sequence. The MYP Coordinator partners with the PYP and DP Coordinators to ensure continuity between the programs. The Coordinator may teach up to three sections.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and develop the MYP curriculum within the spirit of the school’s and the IB’s mission and vision statements 

  • Maintain a thorough awareness of the IB standards, practices, and requirements associated with the MYP 

  • Serve on the Middle School Administrative Team and the Academic Affairs Committee

  • Collaborate with the Academic Affairs Committee, the Middle School administration, Middle School team leader committee, grade-level teams, and individual faculty regarding the implementation and development of the MYP

  • Lead the division’s process of developing, documenting, and reviewing the MYP curriculum in alignment with IB guidelines, including subject-group overviews, MYP unit planners, assessments, interdisciplinary units, and the integration of Approaches to Learning skills 

  • Promote the development of a Portrait of a Scot through highlighting the IB Learner Profile attributes, articulating a comprehensive Approaches to Learning skills matrix, aligning the Approached to Learning (ATL) skills matrix to the Portrait of a Scot traits, and collaborating with teachers, the Dean of Studies, and department chairs to create competency-based measures and learning experiences that build ATL skills 

  • Participate in the hiring process for all MYP faculty and staff

  • Provide orientation and training for all faculty new to the MYP 

  • Plan, lead, and support collaborative meetings and professional development sessions for subject-area teams, grade-level teams, and for the whole MYP faculty and staff 

  • Ensure that all faculty are trained and knowledgeable about the MYP framework, standards, approaches to teaching, and unit-planning process 

  • Guide teachers in implementing MYP approaches to assessment and ensure that reporting practices are consistent with the MYP philosophy and guidelines

  • Communicate with parents and community members to develop their awareness and understanding of MYP curricular aims, philosophy, and assessment practices 

  • Lead and prepare documentation for the IB evaluation process, including the regular review of school policies, the development and implementation of the MYP professional development plans, and all related programme documentation

  • Meet and communicate regularly with the PYP and DP coordinators to ensure clear alignment of the IB program under the guidance of the dean of studies

  • Liaise with the Dean of Studies and department chairs during the curriculum review process to ensure implementation of the MYP framework and requirements 

  • Participate in the scheduling process to ensure that the schedule supports concurrency of learning in the MYP to develop holistic individuals

  • Work with Director of Global Engagement, Head of Middle School, and MS faculty to oversee and support the successful implementation of the MYP Community Project 

  • Teach up to three sections

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor 

Qualifications


  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred

  • Past MYP experience, 3 years experience teaching in a MYP authorized school preferred

  • A passion for collaborating with colleagues and administrators

  • Strong organizational ability and initiative

  • A creative leader with a proven track record of leading mission, vision, and strategic-plan-driven change 

  • Clear written and oral communication skills 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills which promote effective relationship building 

  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment

  • Commitment to a growth mindset and continuous professional development

  • Adept at learning and utilizing a range of educational technologies such as the Google suite of educational applications, Apple computing products, and school information and learning management systems

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 25lbs.
