Position: Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery (L&D RN)

Location: Saint Agnes Medical Center, 1303 E Herndon Ave. Fresno, CA 93720

Shift: 12 Hour shifts, Nights, self-scheduling

Pay Range: Depends on experience between $44.23 – $64.14 plus benefits

*May be adjusted based on career ladder placement

Position Requirements:

License: CA RN License

Certifications: BLS, ACLS (within 90 days), NRP (within 90 days), FMC or C-EFM (within one year)

Experience: 1 year of L&D experience

Education: Associates required

About the Unit

Reporting to the Practice Coordinator, this position is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care of each assigned patient; supervising, coordinating and guiding the activities with nursing staff members; and implementing the philosophy, goals and standards of care of the L&D Unit.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family, and health care personnel is required.
• Ability to handle varying issues in the midst of any situation and work effectively individually and as a member of a team within a stress-producing environment is required.
• Monitors labor and fetal wellbeing and contractions and helps patient with breathing techniques.
• Checks patient’s cervix periodically to monitor progression/lack of dilation.
• Consistently applies knowledge of hemodynamics and of AWHOON fetal nomenclature for Category I, II, and III and recognizes when fetus is in distress.
• Manages IV infusions for patients on Pitocin, MgSO4 and continuous lumbar epidural, and frequently assesses patient’s response.
• Contacts anesthesia when/if patient is ready for epidural; ascertains proper time and contacts delivering physician at appropriate time.
• Provides immediate care of newborn (clean, weigh, etc.) Assigns Apgar score.
