JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing a safe, structured environment that meets the needs of behaviorally challenged adults, while always maintaining professional and acceptable boundaries. A Behavioral Health Paraprofessional (BHPP) is member of the multidisciplinary team who carries out support functions such as, activities of daily living, chart consumer’s daily progress, and assistance in self-medication administration.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives the directions from the Administrator, the BHP, and the BHT.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Under direction of the administrator and BHT, the BHPP is responsible for: assisting consumers in the performance of activities of daily living as directed by the Administrator, BHT or designee, assisting in the maintenance of individuals’ records at home for each consumer, and assisting consumers on medical appointments, grocery shopping, housekeeping, accompanying consumers on outings, meal preparation, medication, and other duties assigned. The BHPP is an integral part of the team responsible for the health and wellbeing of the Saguaro Foundation’s Behavioral Health consumers.
Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Six months of behavioral health or related work experience. The candidate for this position must be flexible and willing to work a combination of days, evening, weekends, and holidays. All applicants must pass a criminal background. If applicant operates any Saguaro Foundation vehicle, he/she must present a (3) year motor vehicle record and must be approved by Saguaro Foundation insurance. Must be eighteen (18) years of age and must have reliable transportation to get to and from the assigned work setting.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid state ID.
Must have clean five (3) year Motor Vehicle Record if operates Saguaro Foundation vehicles.
Certified in Pro-Act (Training provided by Saguaro Foundation)
Must have First Aid and CPR certification (Training provided by Saguaro Foundation)
Must possess an Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance.
Must possess a caregiver certificate that meets licensing requirements if BHPP provides personal care services.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Computer software including email, word processing, spreadsheet, and databases.
Effective communication techniques using tact and professionalism; and
Record-keeping techniques.
Ability to:
Carry out written and oral instructions.
Read and interpret policies.
Maintain records.
Submit significant and routine paperwork, such as progress notes, incident reports, medication logs, maintenance requests, etc. as required by the program.
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Read, interpret, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Implement day-to-day structure which may include redirection, and verbal and preventive intervention (PRO-ACT), when applicable.
Prepare or supervise meal preparation according to the pre-established menu, consumer’s physician ordered diets, and perform household duties daily; and
Ensure that the facility is physically maintained to meet licensure requirements and is always clean and habitable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to:
Stand, sit, or walk for periods of time.
Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Obtain verbal and auditory capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner.
Rarely climb or balance.
Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull, drag, bend, and reach and stretch overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally; and
Ability to lift or pull up to fifty (50) pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include:
Close vision.
Color vision.
Peripheral vision.
Depth perception; and
Ability to adjust and focus.
