Title: Jr. Estimator

Location: Alexandria, VA

Department: Estimating

Summary

As a Junior Estimator, you will learn, grow, and aspire to the role of Estimator supporting the companies’ efforts in securing new projects. Clients primarily include VDOT and MDOT, county DPW, city and local construction depts., public utility providers and federal, Non-Defense related infrastructure construction.

The type of work involved includes primarily public infrastructure in Northern Virginia, D.C., and Southern Maryland:

» Road, highway and bridge construction

» Foundation (pile, caisson, etc.)

» Earth moving operations

» Utility construction for both DOT and public utility

SALARY/ PAY: (Wage determined by experience verified by references and upon completion of interview).

REPORTS TO: Business Development Manager, Upper Management

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

» Prepare quantity survey (take off) of the anticipated scope

» Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and the contents of the estimate while using applicable plans, and specifications to complete takeoff of projects.

» As needed, may accompany the Estimator to proposal kick-off meetings (on-site or virtual) ordered by Clients.

» Assist estimating team with locating and acquiring subcontractor and supplier participation via qualified/certified vendor databases, phone calls, and email announcements.

» Assist Estimating Team with reviewing subcontractor and supplier proposals and transfer data into HCSS.

» Work with estimating team on the production of standard and complex technical bid proposals and presentations

» Assists Estimating Team with generating the required minority and disadvantaged business plan.

» Participate in the preparation of studies, material comparison, and methods, recommendations, and relative cost estimates as required

» Participate in pre-proposal meetings, bid/estimate strategy and presentation meetings as required

» Assist Project Management Office in preparation of the change orders (as required)

» Perform other related duties as assigned by Business Development Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in engineering, Construction management or other related field; and/or minimum 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Extensive field experience mainly in utility work, roadway and bridge construction and rehabilitation. Work experience in DMV areas for public and private sectors.

Civil engineering estimating experience

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret owner project technical specifications, general standard specifications, construction plans and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office, Blue Beam, Agtek, and HCSS* (or) similar electronic estimating software systems. Extensive use of email, text and other electronic forms of communication is to be expected. Experience working with HCSS Heavy Bid is a plus.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day and limited to the Sagres Construction service area.
