JOB SUMMARY:

The STEM Outreach Coordinator will seek and coordinate funding for STEM initiatives, and facilitate collaboration with K-12 school districts, STEM employers in the Great Lakes Bay Region, and faculty in the College of Science, Engineering, & Technology, College of Education, and College of Arts & Behavioral Sciences

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with K-12 schools to incorporate their input on in-school and out-of-school STEM programming activities.
  • Collaborate with SVSU faculty to identify funding sources for STEM outreach initiatives, and work with the Office of Sponsored Programs to develop and submit funding proposals to procure funding as Senior Personnel.
  • Work with SVSU faculty and staff to successfully coordinate STEM education initiatives, including the Chief Science Officers (CSO) Program, that bring students to campus.
  • Facilitate quarterly meetings on campus to support collaboration, community, and synergistic activities.
  • Coordinate with Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance and MI-STEM Regional Director to increase the pipeline of high school students to SVSU STEM majors.
  • Maintain a database of schools, teachers, students, and employers engaged in STEM programming.
  • Facilitate external STEM advisory groups as needed (educators, employers, key stakeholders) to ensure appropriate communication and information sharing to utilize the time and talent resources aligned to regional STEM objectives.
  • Identify and promote professional development opportunities for STEM teachers.
  • Conduct a comprehensive evaluation strategy to measure impact and outcomes of STEM outreach programming. Track and report appropriate metrics and submit annual reports to Academic Affairs and the Dean of the College of Education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Education.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision is exercised over the department’s student workers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • Teaching licensure and/or experience in K-12 school settings.
  • Record of successful collaboration with stakeholders in STEM education initiatives.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capacity to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Possess an understanding of effective professional learning models.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in education or related field.
