JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinate all student services and outreach events for the Thompson Working Families Scholarship (TWFS) program. This position will provide both academic and administrative guidance to recipients of the Thompson Working Families Scholarship program from the time the students enter the University through graduation. This position will coordinate advising, group service opportunities, social programing, and financial aid assistance. This position will be housed in the Academic Advising Office and will work closely with Financial Aid, Admissions, Student Volunteer Services, the Alumni Office, and the SVSU Thompsons Working Families Scholarship Committee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate application process (outreach, awarding, and acceptance) for new freshmen, Achiever, and transfer (Admissions assists in identifying the transfer students) students into the TWFS program with SVSU Scholarships & Financial Aid Office.
  • Organize social programming opportunities for all cohorts. Including freshmen and welcome back activities, midyear events, and end of the year celebrations.
  • Work with students to help maintain academic success and meet graduation goals by providing academic advising and registration assistance to all cohorts.
  • Work with Community Engagement Office to ensure that students complete the community engagement service hours required by the TWFS. Coordinate at least two service opportunities per year for TWFS recipients.
  • Maintain student records pertaining to academic advisement services and collaborate with TWFS Committee quarterly to meet reporting and academic requirements for the University and Thompson foundation.
  • Other duties as assigned which impact student success and retention initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3-4 years of related work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail skills.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple “stakeholders,” within and outside the University.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible and varying schedule.
  • Knowledge of all SVSU curricula and catalog.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with diverse student populations and groups.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office, Ellucian Colleague).
