JOB SUMMARY: Saginaw Valley State University, an NCAA DII institution and member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), is seeking a qualified candidate for a position of Athletic Equipment & Event Operations Intern to support 18 Division II varsity sports. This position provides support for the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities & Events with all aspects of equipment needs for all varsity-sponsored sports as well as some event operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations.
  • Ensuring that all relevant institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations are followed including, but not limited to player eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling, and academic progress.
  • Ensure compliance with all institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations by student-athletes and sport-related staff.
  • Abides by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance.
  • Execute the equipment and apparel contract and other team-specific equipment contracts.
    Serve as the main point of contact for all invoicing and execution of payments of equipment and apparel needs for our 18 varsity athletic programs.
  • Coordinate with the coaches of all 18 varsity athletic teams and staff to develop, execute, and supervise effective distribution, ordering, and storage of their teams' athletic equipment.
  • Purchase, inventory, distribute, collect, maintain, and repair athletic equipment and apparel for all 18 varsity athletic programs.
  • Assist with and supervise the coordination of Athletics laundry operations and staff.
  • Provide on-site administrative support for athletics varsity coemptions and community engagement programs when available and as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Associate/Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities & Events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One to two years of related work experience, preferably in athletics, athletic equipment, athletic events, or sports management.
  • Demonstrated ability with computer-based applications.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse community.
  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Outstanding public relations skills.
