Safety Technology International is Hiring a Mechanical Designer Near Waterford, MI

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Mechanical Designer to join our dynamic team. As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a key role in developing cutting-edge mechanical solutions for our products. Your responsibilities include designing, documenting, prototyping, testing, and optimizing products. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to product development, and drive the implementation of innovative mechanical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and design new products, as well as enhancements and updates for existing products.
  • Create and optimize mechanical designs, considering factors such as structural integrity, material properties, and thermal management.
  • Conduct detailed analysis, calculations, and simulations for optimal performance and reliability of mechanical components.
  • Build and test prototypes to validate designs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of mechanical components and systems.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide valuable input to enhance overall product performance.
  • Support the development and review of Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs) for mechanical aspects.
  • Generate comprehensive documentation for mechanical designs, including specifications, details and assemblies, and test reports.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of Product Design Specifications and the definition of product requirements for mechanical components/products.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of design changes and iterations for mechanical aspects.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements for mechanical components.
  • Collaborate with the design team to facilitate product certifications for mechanical aspects.
  • Assist with the coordination of external design resources to manage and assist in the development of mechanical components/products.
  • Provide comprehensive updates on the status of design progress for products and report any identified issues.
  • Understand and consider the impact of manufacturing processes on the mechanical design of products.
  • Assist with general product technical support within the organization and during production or product launches (may include providing some basic training) for mechanical aspects.
  • Assist in the development of internal engineering standards and processes related to mechanical design.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in mechanical design.
  • Apply new knowledge and techniques to enhance the quality and efficiency of mechanical designs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree (minimum) in a technical or a related field.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design, encompassing mechanism design, plastic component design, sheet metal design, and prototyping.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, particularly Autodesk Inventor 3D, as well as Microsoft Office and Teams applications.
  • Some experience with fixture, jig, and tooling design to support the manufacturing process is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, structural analysis, and material properties.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements for mechanical components.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in the mechanical domain.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities for cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet tight deadlines for mechanical design.
