Safe Voices is Hiring a Certified Domestic Violence Intervention Program Facilitator Near Lewiston, ME

Safe Voices domestic violence resource center is hiring a Full-Time Certified Domestic Violence Intervention Program (CDVIP) Facilitator. This position is now daytime hours, with a flexible work schedule including the possibility of a 4 day work week.

CDVIP is an educational program for men who have been convicted of domestic violence related crimes. Men are most often referred by probation and are required to participate in the program. The CDVIP Facilitator position involves teaching multiple batterer’s intervention classes per week.

(Classes in Lewiston, Rumford, Norway, and Farmington- mileage reimbursement is provided).

Classes take place in weekly sessions of up to fifteen participants and are co-taught by one female and one male facilitator. At this time, we are hiring for a female facilitator position.

This program’s primary purpose is to increase the safety of women and children. We are guiding conversations, friendly and non-confrontational, but firmly focused, that look at the causes and conditions of the participants’ choice to use violence. This intervention is not anger management, skill-building, or counseling. The goal is to help the men change by taking personal responsibility. This means thinking critically about their beliefs of entitlement to control their partners or wives, and questioning the negative effects of their actions.

CDVIP Facilitators need to think on their feet in class, respond in the moment, and then honestly reflect on their choices later. We listen with care to what the participants say, then repeat it back with critical thinking questions. The job requires not only being able to ask such questions in uncomfortable and/or challenging moments, but also maintaining calm, direct and respectful communication at all times. In addition, facilitators are expected to engage with peers, supervisors, and State-certified monitors in thoughtful and constructive conversations about their facilitation choices, classroom management, and fidelity to the class curriculum. Above all, a successful candidate for this position must have a willingness to learn and to do difficult critical thinking work about one’s own choices and the beliefs behind them. We must do the work of accountability ourselves if we are going to expect it of the participants.

This position involves participation in ongoing staff training and professional development, coordinated and paid for through Safe Voices. This includes Certification from a nationally recognized training for Domestic Violence Intervention Programs within six months of hire.

We are currently hiring for one position. Pay starts at $21.74 per hour and will increase based on experience.

  • Full-time, benefits eligible position. Position to be filled as soon as possible.

Interested applicants can submit their resume and letter of interest to Courtney O’Brien at Cobrien@safevoices.org . Resumes submitted without cover letters will not be reviewed.
