DOVE Initiative Workshop Facilitator
Introduction and Background
Safe Horizon, the largest non-profit victim services agency in the United States, envisions a society free of family and community violence, and works to provide support, prevent violence, and promote justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families, and their communities.
The Domestic Violence Empowerment (DOVE) Initiative is the New York City Council’s primary investment in bolstering the response to domestic violence in communities across New York City. As part of the DOVE Initiative, each spring Safe Horizon hosts workshops focused on bringing together community-based organizations in the field of domestic violence to strengthen partnerships focused on moving forward the field of domestic violence in our capacity to best serve survivors and support staff. As per the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic, workshops may be facilitated in person (in NYC) or virtually(via Zoom).
General Information
Safe Horizon seeks to hire two independent contractors, each of whom will prepare and instruct one online or in person workshop. The workshops must occur prior to June 10, 2023. The workshops will be delivered to a consortium of participants representing those domestic violence service agencies that have been selected by the City of New York to receive funds in connection with the DOVE Initiative. In past years, participants have included directors and administrative staff, as well as frontline and direct service providers such as case managers and social workers.Selected consultants will be expected to facilitate their workshop for 2 hours and will be compensated at a rate of $2,500 per workshop.
We are interested in workshops focused on:
Adapting to and incorporating everchanging client needs;
Tools for responding to client distress; De-escalating upset clients;
Diffusing client/group conflict in residential or group settings;
Grief and loss;
Best practices for coaching and developing staff skills.
Consultants should be prepared to:
Create a safe, anti-oppressive learning environment;
Lead the workshop by modeling desired behavior (i.e. engaging participants, using examples relevant to material, and using strength-based feedback);
Adapt to developmental and learning needs of participants, to help participants advance their knowledge, skills, and abilities;
Facilitate the Workshop in a manner that is encouraging of diverse opinions, culture, and viewpoints; and
Actively create space for participationand encourage productive discussion.

Proposal Instructions and Requirements
Interested parties should submit a proposal that includes: (1) a draft workshop outline/agenda (please specify whether you are proposing an in person or remote/online workshop), (2) learning objectives of the workshops, and (3) a resume or CV with cover letter highlighting professional teaching and workshop experience; experience with participant engagement in a live or digital space; experience with domestic violence programs ; experience with trauma-informed practice; and experience working with diverse communities.

New Requirement
Effective October 29, 2021, as a private contractor of The City of New York all Safe Horizon employees, interns and volunteers must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination unless they have been granted a reasonable accommodation for religious or medical reasons.
