Safe Harbor Children’s Center, Inc. is Hiring a Residential Youth Specialist (Summer 7AM-3PM) Near Brunswick, GA

House Parents create a safe and nurturing home environment and are responsible for providing assistance in daily living tasks and ensuring the personal safety and welfare of children/ youth (ages 0-17) in a residential setting, while serving as an effective role model.

AVAILABLE SHIFTS:

  • SHIFT : Monday through Friday (7AM-3PM)(2 Positions Open)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have at least a High School Diploma or a GED.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (state childcare licensing requirement).
  • Must submit to a pre‐employment, annual, random, and for cause screening to include a drug screen, criminal history, and background check through the Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) and/or Department of Juvenile Justice.
  • Possession of a valid GA Driver’s License with satisfactory driving history.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of prior experience serving at-risk children/ youth in a residential setting.

General Responsibilities:

  • Reports immediately any suspected incidents of child abuse/ neglect to the Program Director and DFCS Child Protective Services.
  • Participates/ Attends training and staff development activities.
  • Completes other duties as directed by the Program Director.

Duties:

  • Ensures the safety and basic care to children in the residence.
  • Supervise and provide assistance/ training to children in personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing.
  • Supervise and provide assistance/ training with life skills (e.g., meal preparation, age-appropriate chores, etc.) and/or educational needs.
  • Prepare and supervise meals and snacks, as per schedule.
  • Provide health maintenance according to children’s needs, to include: assessing health/ safety concerns, accurate medication assistance, providing minor first aid when needed, attending medical/ therapy appointments with children, etc.
  • Quickly reacts and takes the lead during emergency situations (i.e. falls, illnesses, fires, natural disasters, etc.) and adheres to emergency preparedness and response procedures, ensuring the safety of children in Shelter.
  • Provide transportation to and from school, and to various activities such as community functions, activities and shopping, using the Shelter van (15-passenger van).
  • Maintain clean and sanitary condition of the Shelter, including laundry, dusting, vacuuming, dishwashing, etc.
  • Maintain shift documentation pertaining to children in the Shelter, as well as documentation required by state/ accreditation agencies.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrate the ability to be a positive role model and demonstrate patience, effective communication skills, and good judgement.
  • Ability to assist residents with K-12 academic demands, meal preparation, housekeeping responsibilities, personal hygiene, grooming and other activities as needed.
  • Ability to appropriately accept feedback through the supervision process thus displaying the willingness to learn, grow, and improve.
  • Physical: Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, frequent sitting, standing and walking, may be required for long periods of time; Walking up and down stairs frequently (Zach’s Place is a two-story facility); Light Lifting (groceries, supplies, small children) up to 25 pounds.

  • Supervisor: Program Director and House Manger
  • Work Environment: The primary place of employment is the youth homeless shelter, but staff may be tasked to assist at other Safe Harbor Center locations.
  • Note: This listing of job responsibilities is not all inclusive and is subject to change upon the needs of the program, therefore staff flexibility is a necessity.
