Job Description:

The role of the Student Success Coordinator is to oversee and manage various programs within the Office of Student Advising and Success and Office of Undergraduate and Postbaccalaureate Prehealth Advising. This includes managing day to day operations, working one-on-one with students and parents as an academic coach, researching and carry out student-focused initiatives, including the Pre-Fall Program and tracking student academic progress.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Serves as academic success support to pre-health, nursing and health profession students, coordinating and providing overall quality assurance and troubleshooting support for all Academic Success Coaching.
  • Work with prehealth student clubs and organizations on community service projects.
  • Tracking student academic progress in prehealth and dual degree programs.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating academic support programs for first-year and other student cohorts (e.g. transfer students, students on academic probation), facilitate their delivery, and collect data to assess and measure their success.
  • Recruit, trains, and develop staff of work study students.
  • Teach one section of Academic Success Planning (ASP 099) each Spring.
  • Collaborate with Associate Deans to coordinate registration training for students within each college.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and design new student success workshops.
  • Plan and execute "Start Strong" week-long pre-fall program.
  • Advise academically high priority students
  • Provide academic success coaching services to SHU students.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

REQUIRED:

  • BA or BS in Education, Psychology, Social Work or related field
  • Experience in a college environment
  • Organizational skills

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, psychology, or related liberal arts field
  • Knowledge of prehealth academic requirements

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with faculty and staff to ensure student, department and University needs are met effectively
  • Communicate professionally with students, outside providers, parents (as needed) and staff members to ensure timely decision-making
  • Collaborate with department staff to ensure successful goals
  • High level of energy required. Seek to motivate and inspire.

Student focused work environment. May require evening hours and/or weekend hours- during final exams week
