Position Title: Program Director and Head Varsity Coach - Girls Lacrosse
Department: Athletics
Reports To: Assistant Principal, Athletics and Girls Athletic Director
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Schedule of Duties: Seasonal
Salary: $35-$45/ hour depending on experience Position Purpose: To develop a Prep Girls Lacrosse Program that supports the Mission of the School and its Goals and Criteria, and supports the development of the sport at the Schools' Lower and Middle School level. Specific Expectations for part-time, non-exempt Coaches, Administrators and Staff in the Prep Athletic Department: In addition to duties and essential job functions listed in job descriptions, the following responsibilities are required or encouraged of all part-time, non-exempt employees in the Prep Athletics Department:
Seasonal Sports Parents Meetings (required)
Coaches Seasonal Workshops (required)
All-School Masses and Espacios (welcome)
Graduation and Convocation (welcome)
Professional development as required by your supervisor, work beyond your regular hours when required by your supervisor, and attendance at, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events as directed by your supervisor.
All non-exempt employees are required to accurately track their time and paid time-off in the payroll system.
All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of regular work schedule, permission to work outside of the regular work schedule is required; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.
Essential Functions Head Coach - Varsity Program
Recruits, hires, and supervises assistant varsity coaches in collaboration with the Assistant Principal, Athletics and Girls Athletic Director
Leads instruction for athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies and physical training necessary to realize a degree of individual and team success
Leads, through words and action, resulting in an environment that fosters learning, development of positive character traits, enjoyment of the game and formation of moral values that support the educational philosophy of the Sacred Heart Schools (Goals & Criteria) while also providing an enjoyable experience for the players
Works cooperatively with the athletic administration and school community to support the academic and co-curricular aspirations of the Girls Lacrosse program and all student-athletes
Supervises practices, competitions, tournaments and team trips
Updates knowledge of technical aspects of the sport and shows a willingness to continue to learn and examine new ideas pertinent to the sport of Lacrosse and/or to coaching in general
Works cooperatively with the school's athletic trainers and athletic performance coaches
Works in a proactive, positive and realistic manner to support the college athletics goals of the members of the team
Responsible for coordinating with the Assistant Principal, Athletics and Girls Athletic Director all administrative tasks including uniform/equipment issues and inventory, transportation, game scheduling, referees scheduling, and all other administrative tasks as determined by the athletics administration
Establishes and implements policies for handling issues or concerns that may arise from players and/or parents
Attends coaches meetings, preseason parents meeting and annual coaches leadership workshop on the Sacred Heart Schools campus
Organizes end-of-season individual player meetings
Organizes post-season team party and awards
When applicable, is responsible for transporting student athletes by school vans to sports events
Program Director
Responsible for oversight of the JV Girls Lacrosse program including but not limited to:
Recruiting, hiring and supervising JV head and assistant coaches
Overseeing player technical development
Providing team tactical direction to support the development of players to support the vision of the varsity program
Overseeing the implementation of an environment that fosters learning, development of positive character traits and enjoyment of the game at the competition and practice sites as well as in the locker room, transportation vehicles and all other locations while representing the school
Collaborate with the Lower and Middle School Athletics Director to support the development of the LMS Girls Lacrosse Program including:
Oversees the implementation, administration, and management of the LMS Girls Lacrosse program
Acting as a resource to help identify potential LMS coaches
Acting as a resource for LMS Girls Lacrosse needs including equipment, competition recommendations, etc.
Develop and/or coordinate with external programs and opportunities for player development including camps, clinics and club teams
Abide by all rules of the CIF/CCS and the league as they pertain to this sport
Qualifications
A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based in it including a commitment to equity and inclusion
Bachelor's Degree in related field or the equivalent experience
Experience in independent schools preferred
Proven ability to develop, organize and supervise a sports program
Previous coaching experience required; experience as a head Girls Lacrosse Coach preferred
Good role model with demonstrated excellent ethics consistent with Sacred Heart Schools Goals and Criteria
Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with a broad and diverse school community
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good to excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & social media)
Demonstrative leadership and facilitative skills
Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality
A clean driving record and valid California driver's license. Will be subject to clearance through the California Vehicle Report and the standards for driving set by SHS insurance underwriters
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or puling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds
Ability to travel safely and comfortably across the 63-acre campus
