Job Summary

The Clinical Instructor is responsible for training, teaching, supervising, coaching, and mentoring students during the clinical education portion of their program. This position is collaborative with the SUI and clinical site staff, as well as the students to maintain a high standard of clinical experiences for the students during their clinical externship. 

Limitations: Only one Clinical Instructor per department is allowed.

General Accountabilities

• Serve as a role model to the SUI student.
• Delegate work assignments for the student while in the clinical educational site, i.e., scanning staff downtime, stocking rooms, cleaning machines, etc.
• Train, teach, and supervise the student during the clinical externship by spending an adequate amount of time with the student to ensure competent development of clinical skills; this includes encouraging other professional interactions with the student and ensuring a cohesive learning environment for all who meet the student.
• Provide formative and summative evaluation of student attendance, attitude, level of professionalism, and clinical competency during the clinical rotation.
• Work with the Program Director and/or Clinical Coordinator to maintain a high standard of clinical experiences for the student during their clinical externship.
• Maintain and advance personally in the field through continuing education, involvement, and appropriate credentials.
• Submit ARDMS card or number to SUI to establish eligibility.
• Establish student schedule(s).
• Establish each exam protocol the student will use if different staff use different protocols.
• Be the primary contact person with SUI.
• Complete the required tracking, evaluation, and competencies on Trajecsys or delegate a substitute.
• Ensure the accuracy of student timecards on the Trajecsys system.
• Act in the role of a mediator and decision maker if indicated.
• Ensure the students are getting the best possible externship experience.
• Immediately notify SUI as problems or concerns arise.
• Work with students and effectively communicate throughout the externship on student’s improvements, areas to improve and overall student preparedness for the workforce.
• Participate in regular communication with SUI.

Job Qualifications

• Must be a current CCI/ARDMS/ARRT credentialed in areas where they will oversee students.
• Must have the equivalent of two years' professional experience in a specific field.
