Leads teams to drive success in 5 key focus areas: Safety, Quality, Service, Performance, and People. Provides direction, goals, development, and feedback to direct reports, resulting in meeting daily production requirements, assignments, safety, equipment operation, and quality control components for the Blue Diamond production facilities. Plans, organizes, staffs, directs, and controls activities that impact operations. Provides mentoring to peers on activities supporting operations. Collaborates with the Department Manager on activities supporting sustainable operations goals and objectives for the site, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting critical objectives for the business.**Job Description:**
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**
* Partners with Sanitation, Production, and other support functions to reduce line downtime and efficient cleaning schedules, resulting in continuous improvement across the entire Plant.
* Develop, effectively communicate, and sustain Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for master cleaning across the Sanitation and Production teams, resulting in improved safety, quality, performance, service, and people metrics.
* Ensures the necessary sanitation requirements to support production needs through proper documentation, chemicals, materials, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
* Provide leadership, development, and clear direction to the Sanitation team to ensure Sanitation team members can work across all equipment and/or lines within the Sacramento Plant. Adheres to and assists with training and implementation of all procedures and policies associated with Food Safety and Quality.
* Oversees sanitation crewing on a 24/5, 24/6, 24/7 schedule, resulting in on-time sanitation and on-time start-ups within Production.
* Participates in updating and maintaining Equipment Cleaning procedures as required.
* Participates in maintaining Blue Diamond Quality and Sanitation practices that meet or exceed internal, Regulatory, and Customer expectations.
* Engages in maintaining systematic procedures for all actions necessary to ensure that the facility is free from any conditions that may cause product contamination or adulteration.
* Focuses on adequacy for food safety, cleaning practices, maintenance items, operational practices, and pest control.
* Participates in managing pesticide application requirements and frequencies in complying with all Regulatory Agencies.
* Maintains inventory, safety, service, and training records of pesticide usage and equipment as specified by Regulatory Agencies; stays informed with latest practices and Continuing Education requirements.
* Assists in resolving customer complaints; implements corrective actions in accordance with complaint action plans.
* Participates in the reduction of complaints and the overall quality improvements.
* Supports the Production and support function departments, strategies, and objectives; identifies cost reductions and design improvements opportunities.
* Promotes quality and resource utilization; drives accountability for bottom-line performance; and communicates performance measures to front-line team members.

**MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS**
* Bachelor's Degree plus 3 years of plant sanitation or plant quality assurance experience
* State Pesticide Applicator Certificate.
* Must be able to work flexible shift work, including off-shift hours and weekends.
* Must be a proactive team player.
* Will have continuous contact primarily with employees at entry levels of the organization and some external contacts.
* Must be able to function effectively as a leader or member in a team environment; translate concepts into concrete examples.
* Must be a self-starter; demonstrated ability to produce on schedule; act constructively; strongly motivated to improve self, production department.
* Demonstrated leadership ability through discovering and utilizing people's capabilities, recognizing good work, and earning the respect of peers and subordinates.
*Total minimum number of years of experience required **in lieu of degree***
* 8 years of experience executing plant sanitation/ quality assurance initiatives.
**PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES** (
* Bachelor's Degree in microbiology, food safety, food science, or similar.
* Experience leading Plant Sanitation/ Quality Assurance Teams.
* Food manufacturing experience and Continuous Improvement (LEAN,TPM).
* Technical knowledge with food processing equipment, understanding of SPC and associated tools, knowledge, and application of SQF, quality standards, and associated requirements.
* Must have a clear understanding of Dry Cleaning and Wet Cleaning principles and techniques
* Effectively communicate at all levels in the organization.
* Must be a proactive team player who focuses on continuous improvement, people leadership, and clear direction across multiple shifts and departments.
* Has continuous contact with team members at all levels as well as external customers.
* Must be able to write and interpret documents clearly and concisely.
* Must be able to operate with a great degree of flexibility resulting from changing market conditions.
* Must be able to understand pesticide equipment.
* Must understand operating principles of food processing equipment.
* Must be computer literate. Knowledge of QC procedures. Up-to-date pesticide knowledge.
**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES**
* Greater than 15
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
Must be able to physically move throughout the facility, including climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and tight access areas. Able to work at a desk for extended periods of time doing analytical work or preparing reports on a computer.
**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
Must be able to work in a plant environment being exposed to dust, high noise levels, extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations, and wet operating work conditions. Typical conditions may include prolonged sitting, standing, and walking. Must be able to work all shifts. Must be able to work any shift based on operational needs. On call 24 hours a day for emergency situations. Weekend work not uncommon. Ability to travel (15%)
