Senior Estimator for Substations & BESS

The position of Senior Estimator 

Will be based out of our main office located in Clear Lake, Texas. We also have several offices in Texas and Louisiana area. For the right individual we may consider candidates who could work from one of these other offices or even consider a remote home office, in the US. The candidate will be responsible for delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality estimates of complex (EPC or Construction Only) and large utility scale substation and / or BESS. The Senior Estimator must be capable of presenting their estimate to the leadership team as well as the client, demonstrating high competency of all components of the estimate and include back-up supporting documentation. It is Critical for our success that you can produce highly accurate work in a timely manner, maintain strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Communication skills, both oral and written, are a must so our executive team has confidences in your work. 

 Preferred Education and/ or Work Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management preferred
• 2 years of estimating experience in BESS, “Battery Energy Storage” & Substations

Additional requirements are as follows:

• Must possess a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record
• Performing all levels and types of estimating, planning, scheduling, and cost engineering for project activities
• Reviewing, evaluating, and negotiating material quotes
• Developing and maintaining material vendor relationships
• Developing and maintaining relationships with subcontractors/partners
• Manage and maintain vendor and subcontractor database
• Preparing vendor Requests for Quotes and evaluate vendor pricing
• Training and developing junior estimators
• Understanding and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Reviewing and implementing lessons learned to ensure estimating data is accurate and competitive

Skills & Abilities

• Solid MS Office and estimating software skills
• Understanding of all engineering scopes, including electrical, mechanical, structural, civil, and permitting compliance
• Accurately performing material take-offs for renewable energy, and HV/MV utility projects
• Researching new products and installation techniques and developing cost roadmaps to ensure competitive pricing
• Interpreting construction plans and specifications
• Operating in a high-stress environment to provide critical project deliverables in the form of engineering, procurement, and construction estimates with supporting documentation to meet milestone proposal dates
• Understanding of shipping and logistics with respect to cost estimating
• Successfully meeting deadlines and collaborate with team members while working remotely
• Verifiable experience of reliable and integrity-driven work habits in an unsupervised setting when appropriate
• Strong analytical, organizational and negotiation skills
• Experience with Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) estimates
• Minimal Travel is required. Travel may account for up to 5% ~ 10% of the time
• Review and align with operations throughout the bid.
• Present and participate in bid strategy meetings.
