S3, Inc is Hiring a VEM Maintenance Mechanic - 803615 Near Stennis Space Center, MS

Purpose of the Position

• Using special equipment inspects, maintains, modifies and repairs all types of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and equipment.

 Duties and Responsibilities

• Using special equipment inspects, maintains, modifies and repairs all types of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and equipment including ground power equipment, compressors and marine equipment.

• Determines general condition of equipment, nature of malfunctions and extent of needed repair.

• Disassembles, cleans and repairs diesel fuel pumps and injectors.

• Checks condition and replaces all fluids, coolants, and lubricants.

• Repairs equipment by removing, disassembling, repairing and replacing parts, cleaning, reassembling and replacing assemblies.

• Uses hand tools and power equipment such as valve refacing machines, brake drum lathes and aligning machines.

• Maintains and cleans tools and equipment.

• Performs general maintenance as assigned.

• Reworks and installs booms, jibs, cables, sheave blocks and control mechanisms.

• Required to lubricate all types of vehicles, heavy equipment and power units.

• Prepares parts lists from vendor catalogs and tunes and adjusts in accordance with operator/shop manuals.

• Drives the fuel and lubrication trucks to refuel and lubricate heavy equipment, roads and grounds equipment, generators, and other equipment as required.

• Maintains fuel logs and keeps lubrication fluid levels adequate for dispensing fuel and lubricants as needed.

• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED equivalent with successful completion of related vocational program.

• Minimum of 5 years directly related experience may be substituted for education requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Physical effort involving able average standing, sitting, walking or detail work.
  • Occasional risk of injury due to hazards.

 Physical Requirements

• Lift minimum of 50 pound load up from the ground frequently

• Walk six hours per day

• Bend and stoop six hours per day

• Work overhead with minimum 20 pound load

• Push and pull frequently throughout the day

• Walk up/down stairs frequently

• Stand seven hours per day

• Climb ladders and scaffolding

• Wear PPE gear six hours continuously (steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves)

• Tolerate extreme cold/heat for three hours continuously

Special Knowledge and Skills

• Good organizational and planning skills

• Good Communication skills

• Ability to pay close attention to detail

• Ability to take direction

• Ability to work with computers

• Ability to work independently but follow specific detailed instructions

• Ability to interface with various levels of personnel in a multi-cultural, team- oriented environment

Other Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.

• Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).

• Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.

• Must have, and maintain, a valid driver’s license.
