Job Description

We are seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with a positive “can-do” attitude and strong work ethic to join the team! Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Director, Assistant Controller will lead a team and support the accounting operations of the company, including functional responsibility over operational accounting, reporting and controls, enhance the accuracy of the Company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • A Perform monthly financial close activities including detailed review of journal entries, account reconciliations. analysis of account variances and reporting of results to management.
  • Assist in improving the accounting and financial reporting function by evaluating processes and implementing changes, using automation.
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
  • Monitor the monthly spend of the distribution centers.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
  • Collaborate with FP&A team on monthly financial variance analysis.
  • Coordinate and oversee the the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Assist the company in managing physical inventory counts.
  • Support the system and accounting integration of our business acquisitions. Will require occasional travel to support effort for the initial 2-3 months following an acquisition.

Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • 10 years working in accounting.
  • 5 years leadership experience.
  • CPA required.
  • Public accounting experience a plus.
  • Previous distribution or retail experience is viewed favorably.
  • Exhibits high initiative and integrity.
  • Excellent skills in MS Excel.
  • Experience using OneStream strongly preferred.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to generate new ideas and think independently, strong research and analysis skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills.

Working Environment

Currently, S&S has a remote work policy which provides for employees to be in the office Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and work from home on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which is subject to change based on business need. Position location: Bolingbrook, IL.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
