MATERIAL HANDLER

SHIPPING

Summary Receives material for final processing and shipping to customer or to various other stages of production. Packages material for shipment. Maintains an orderly storage warehouse and conducts inventory as needed. Identifies internal/external problems, as well as shipping, inventory and material problems and recommends solutions to resolve them.
 Job Duties

• Uses handheld scanner to verify product against paperwork. 
• Uses hand truck to move stacks of full boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. 
• Troubleshoots shipping problems, computer errors, etc. with other departments. 
• Uses ten key to add total of shipping weights. 
• Generates and utilizes computer reports to track, verify material input and needs. 
• Identifies and resolves shipping and inventory report errors by investigating cause and initiating corrective action. 
• Participates in quality/continuous improvement activities by identifying internal/external problems and recommending solution to resolve such problems. 
• Assists with training of new employees.

Minimum Qualifications

• Good computer skills. Must be able to work with spreadsheets, databases with high degree of accuracy. Able to input and retrieve information.
• Sufficient math skills to make calculations to verify totals. 
• Experience with use of ten key. 
• Must be able to interface and work well with external contacts and individuals at all levels of the company.
• Able to read, understand and follow written, multi-step instructions, policies, and procedures.
• Capable of gathering and analyzing information to make sound decisions. 
• Experience working in a fast-pace environment where multi-tasking is essential. 
• Able to work both as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision. 
• Able to follow safety procedures including wearing proper protective equipment.
• Flexible and willing to adjust schedule and/or work overtime to meet company/department needs and goals.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions  This is a highly physical position. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs upon occasion. Packaging requires the ability to move boxes around with hand truck or pallet jack. Require the use of hands to grasp, handle or feel objects, tools and controls may be required. Load and unload hand trucks and pallets and strapping pallets requiring bending, stooping, and crouching positions. Subject to a wide variety of temperatures and noise levels. Must be willing to wear required PPE. Frequent sitting and standing for long intervals. Overtime work may be required on short notice. A high degree of safety consciousness is required for all positions at SEH America.
