JOB SUMMARY

S&C traces its roots back more than 100 years to the invention of the first practical high-voltage fuse, which was crucial to the development of the electric power industry. Today, S&C maintains its focus on solutions for electric power switching and protection. Through this concentration, S&C has developed a reputation for technical leadership in the industry. S&C's customers for products and services include electric utilities and large commercial and industrial power users such as hospitals, airports, universities, data centers, and military bases.

The company is headquartered at the John R. Conrad Industrial Complex, one of Chicago's largest and most modern manufacturing centers. Located about eight miles north of Chicago's Loop, the S&C complex includes production, engineering, laboratory, and office facilities on 46 landscaped acres.

The HSE and Sustainability are part of the overall journey for S&C for continuous improvement. To execute this S&C invests in health and safety management, and a strong environmental compliance program, overall known as HSE. From an environmental standpoint, it involves creating a systematic approach to managing waste, complying with environmental regulations, or reducing the company's carbon footprint, lending to meeting our ESG goals. From a health and safety standpoint, it includes measures to address ergonomics, air quality, and other aspects of workplace safety that affect our Team Members health and well-being. This internship is a direct report into the HSE & Sustainability group.

The candidate considered for this position will work on-site at S&C Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assisting in coordination and preparation of reports, training manuals and programs
• Assisting with industrial hygiene assessments such as air monitoring and noise surveys, radiological health badges, and job hazard analysis
• Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and policies
• Review and enhancement of existing policies and procedures.
• Assigned regulatory tasks associated with the site waste and water systems such as data collection and data entry.
• Assist with regulatory inspections required by state environmental agency.
• Work with environmental staff to implement environmental tracking and reporting systems.
• Work closely with environmental staff and operations on a variety of regulatory matters

For ISO:

• Ensuring implementation and maintenance of key standards and guidelines.
• Reporting back to top management on performance metrics and output data.
• Coordinating the ISO program within an organization.
• Managing the ISO membership.
• May be providing information and resources to ISO members and the broader community.
• Assist with developing and implementing system changes as required to comply with changing ISO requirements.
• Managing the Internal Audit Scheduling and internal auditing program.
• Following up on all ISO non-conformance corrective actions.
• Ensuring all responsible parties document corrective actions on time.
• Verifying implementation of corrective actions according to schedule.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

• Must be a currently enrolled student, in a accredited four year university/college, pursuing a degree in Natural Sciences, Biology, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or other related engineering degree.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA in a bachelor's degree program.
• Must be willing and able to relocate and commute to S&C HQ located in Rogers Park, Chicago IL.
• Must be able and comfortable working Onsite.
• Must be able to work Full-Time starting Summer 2024 - Winter 2024 (6 months minimum preferred).
• Previous internship experience a plus.

The following certifications are not required, however will assist with the success in this position:

• HAZWOPER, OSHA 10 or 30, ISO, SDS, OHSAS, EIT, NSF, CPR, EMS

Job Physical Demands

• Standing: Occasional standing on production floor for daily GEMBA and TM engagements.
• Lifting: Occasional lifting of production parts and tooling less than 35 pounds.
• Walking: Frequent walking throughout the facility both indoors and outdoors.
• Bending: Occasional bending during production auditing.
• Reaching: Infrequent reaching.
• Other: Frequent use of personal computer, keyboard, monitor.
