Job Summary: Provides professional and calm attitude to the communications center and a vital link in the communication between staff, emergency responders, clients, and the public.
Essential Functions:
Radio Communications: Dispatchers are to maintain all radio traffic, controlling any and all radio conversations.
AnsweringPhones: All Dispatchers will answer the phones in a professional and friendly manner. They will frequently check voice mail for any missed calls.
Prioritizing Calls: The Dispatcher is the hub of communication. They will find it necessary to multitask and respond to several calls at once. They must be knowledgeable of and follow proper protocols for prioritizing their duties to address the most urgent and important first.
Use Of Equipment: The Dispatcher must be proficient in the use of computers and communication systems. It is their duty to check for proper functioning of these systems at the beginning of their shift. This includes proper radio transmission and reception, computer hardware and software functions, and the availability of information and reporting notebooks are available and up to date.
ReportsAnd Logs: The Dispatcher must keep accurate and thorough records of all radio and phone communications. They must record statistical information as it is reported to them as well as document communications of incidents as they occur.
Information Hub: The Dispatcher must have a thorough knowledge of their district and utilize district information notebooks and computer search engines to locate information being requested by field ambassadors to assist the public.
Emergency Procedures: Implement emergency SOP's when situations dictate while maintaining a calm demeanor
CCTV Camera Monitoring: Proactively monitor CCTV cameras and report any illegal activity observed to the appropriate authorities (only at some locations)
Office Security And Appearance: Dispatchers are to monitor outside entrances to the office and be aware of who is entering the building. They may be required to be observant of security camera monitors. They are to keep the reception area clean and welcoming to guests.
