Job Overview:

The Unit Secretary, Post Coronary Care Unit (2A), assists the Director of Patient Care and the staff nurses by performing diversified secretarial duties. These duties include but are not limited to: filing, document storage and retrieval, reception, typing, routine record keeping, maintain supplies and equipment, maintaining monthly statistics.

Required:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred:

• Clerical experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• N/A

Scheduling Requirements:

• Evening shift, following a period of orientation and training on day shift
• Weekend and holiday rotation
• Part time, 20 hours per week

Essential Functions:

• Alerts nursing staff to new medical orders and test/procedural results
• Answer telephones properly and relays information to appropriate person
• Assembles and disassembles designated charts appropriately
• Assist nurses by picking up and delivering blood, blood derivatives, specimens, medications and charts as requested
• Demonstrates competency in Pain Management by reporting patient’s pain intensity to staff nurse
• Assists as directed with PI (Performance Improvement) activities such as data collection
• Enters medical orders in Clinical Information System as per hospital policy
• Keeps medical record complete and in order
• Identifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issues
• Maintain unit supplies at appropriate par levels
• Maintains communication with the Bed Controller and cooperates with room assignments
• Participates in unit based patient satisfaction, including: Hourly rounding-inpatient rooms, assist patient as needed, water, get assistance; Greeting patients and family on admission; Answer call bells as needed; Patient call backs; Assist in discharge process
