Job Overview:

The SPD Technician Certified performs cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, assembly and sterilization of surgical devices &instruments, code carts and patient care equipment.

Qualifications:

Required:

• HS Diploma or Equivalent
• Current within all aspects of instrumentation, cleaning, disinfection, decontamination, sterilization, packaging and sterile supplies
• Current in all areas of the Central Sterile Processing department

Preferred:

• 1-3 years Central Sterile Processing experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• Certified by the IAHCSMM or the Sterile Processing board as mandated by the New Jersey State Department of Health
  • Must accrue CEUs to maintain current certification

Essential Functions:

• Performs the daily activities involved with all aspects of decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and surgical supplies and equipment distribution functions
• Attends hands on in-service/ seminars pertaining to the Central Sterile Processing department
• Identifies & understands written data and able to read/write alpha and numeric data accurately
• Assists department supervisors in coordinating daily work levels to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency throughout all department functions
• Conscientious with regards to surgical procedures, nursing units clinical needs, and equipment procurement
• Capable of accepting pressure assignments, as assigned, relative to the department
• Interacts professionally with other departments and personnel within the system including physicians
• Demonstrates a willingness to accept new responsibilities/ideas, learn duties of the position and possess good organizational skills
• Assists SPD Supervisor with staff orientation, on the job training activities in the department
• Assumes responsibility for the distribution of medical/surgical supplies and equipment
• Required to work in a high stress/high volume department
