Christian Educator

8-12 hours per week (including 9-1 on Sundays) We are prepared to expand as the ministry grows.

We are a small and social justice-oriented church on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. We are seeking an individual with experience in progressive Christian education to work with us on Sunday morning worship and Sunday School. For now, the job will require about 8 hours a week, with the potential to expand.

The duties are as follows:

• Prepare and present a Children’s Message at worship service on Sundays (starting at 11 am) in consultation with the pastor

• Lead the Sunday School teaching team for the preschool, elementary, and middle school aged children.

• Lead and plan events for our Youth Ministry Group, C.O.W.L., including group activities outside of the Sunday morning time for teens in the 8th -12th grade as well as children in 4th -7th grades.

• Weekly emails to families about Children and Youth lessons and activities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.

• A person with demonstrated experience in Christian Education and/or relevant educational training.

• Knowledge and experience conducting online programs for and with children. Thorough knowledge and experience using online tools including Zoom and social media platforms.

• A good administrator who is well-organized, an effective record keeper and a problem- solver.

• At least five years of experience working with children in a church setting (could include volunteer work).

• Although not necessarily a Presbyterian, we seek someone with an understanding of and appreciation for the Reformed Tradition.

• Someone who enjoys children and sees them as whole people.

• Someone who can work with many different kinds of family units and committed to fluent communication with parents.

• Someone who is enthusiastic and creative and has excellent people-skills.

• Musical and artistic abilities are a plus.

• Able to work Sundays 9 am to 1 pm, with other hours including some weekday evenings according to availability.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
