POSITION TITLE: R&D Intern

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: The R&D Intern would work under mentorship of a senior formulator to perform collaborative research for the development of powder coatings with unique and differentiated properties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist technology leaders with projects.
• File documents, panels, folders.
• Develop spreadsheets and compile data.
• Proof and develop procedures.
• Spraying and testing panels.
• Review and confirm chemist checklist.
• Enter/Update formulas in PV.
• Make new folders for production. 
• Scanning/saving old folders to the lab drive.
• Spraying post ads and bonded product.
• Assist in preparing training materials and training.
• Search panels for matches.
• Starting formulas for Tru Express.
• Assisting/performing analytical testing.
• Other duties as assigned.

COMPENTENCIES:

• General lab skills, weighing materials, transferring solids from one container to another, adherence to lab safety rules.
• Attention to details, inquisitive, good notes taker, desire to learn and grow.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to comply with required housekeeping and safety expectations.
• Basic math skills- ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. 
• Effective communication with work contacts- peers, supervisors, and other departments.

RECOMMENDED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Major: Chemistry or Business
• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is carried out in a Research and Development laboratory. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have potential exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and noise. The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including (but not limited to) eye protection, ear protection, dust mask or respirator, gloves, steel toed shoes, and in the plant, a hard hat. This position works in an environment in which safety, environmental and health concerns may demand constant attention. Strict adherence to safety policies is a requirement of employment.
