The New Product Development Engineer will design, develop, assess and evaluate new products, applying knowledge of engineering while helping to achieve annual sales and growth initiatives through timely and accurate product delivery.
The New Product Development Engineer responsibilities will include:
  • Contribute to and support the vision, mission, and guiding principles of the company
  • Utilize formal Stage Gate process for new product development
  • Apply VOC and market data to new and existing products for design or improvement
  • Develop formal Action Plans for all new products to ensure timely and accurate deliverables, both internal and external
  • Review and evaluate designs for improved performance or to obtain data for development
  • Initiates cost reduction proposals and investigates proposals from other sources, compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for action and checks on results obtained
  • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.
  • Work with sales and engineering to rationalize part BOMs and routings to reduce setup and inventory requirements
  • Develops specifications, procedures, and objectives for new products
  • Identify labor, material requirements by reviewing customer prints and specifications
  • Collaborate with sales team to understand customer requirements and provide technical support
  • Analyze technical problems and identify solutions for improvement for product design, substitution of material or modifications of parts or subassemblies
  • Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to validate design intent, improve performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control, to establish cost estimating standards.
  • Provides outside sales representatives with timely technical support for securing orders
  • Attend engineering meetings to update team members on quoted projects and new RFQ status
  • Monitor new tooling progress and coordinate delivery schedule with vendor or internal personnel while updating production, engineering, and sales management of progress
  • Lead Kick-off meetings for new products. Align all departments for efficient and effective product launch.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and/or training
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a four-year college or university
  • 5-7 years of manufacturing industry experience
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work with others in a constructive and collaborative way.
  • Experience and high comfort level with ERP systems
  • Results oriented and performance driven.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and time demands simultaneously.
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Adept at reading prints
  • Understanding of material callouts.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Access.
  • CAD proficient
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in a steel or tube fabricating environment is a plus.
  • Technical proficiency with a broad range of metal-working processes, with steel tube processing experience a plus.
