Russell Marine is Hiring an Equipment and Facilities Manager Near Channelview, TX

As the Equipment and Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and inspection of the company’s fleet of cranes, heavy equipment, vehicles, and yard facilities through the activities of the assistant equipment and facilities managers, yard superintendents, mechanics, and field employees who report to this position. The Equipment and Facilities Manager leads the development and implementation of the departmental vision, objectives, strategies, and procedures necessary to support best-in-class operations.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of equipment, both in the yard and project sites.
  • Ensure that all equipment is completely inspected and is calibrated based on the manufacturer’s recommendations or government standard.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain the most qualified mechanics to deliver the best possible results by identifying and providing employee training to ensure an appropriate, certified, skilled mechanic workforce.
  • Establish productivity expectations and track the production and activity of the mechanic workforce.
  • Forecast maintenance needs and prioritize repairs through the review of inspections, work order trends, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Administer and enforce safety rules and objectives within the department including conducting regular safety meetings.
  • Develop and recommend annual strategic plans and budgets for yard operations, parts, inventory, staffing, and capital equipment purchases.
  • Maintain an effective filing system for all required paperwork (e.g. warranties, records, licenses, inspections, service agreements, and contracts) for various pieces of equipment.
  • Coordinate and manage the shipping/receiving of materials, repair parts, and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain a method of quality assurance and control of company-owned equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education/Certification: High school diploma. Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be willing/eligible to obtain one upon hire. Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in heavy equipment inventory and maintenance in the construction industry. Three (3) years of supervisory experience managing staff and third party hired subcontractors and developing equipment maintenance budgets.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers. Must possess the ability to understand written directions in manuals and manufacturer websites. Must possess the ability to learn E-Maintenance and other company software or programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification(s): Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline or technical school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Fifteen (15) years of experience in heavy equipment inventory and maintenance in the construction industry. Five (5) years of supervisory experience managing staff and third party hired subcontractors and developing equipment maintenance budgets.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): General knowledge and skills in marine, heavy civil, or railroad operations, such as pile driving, welding, crane operations, barges, etc. General knowledge or familiarity with HCSS, Excel, and Equipment Software. General knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control methods. Thorough understanding of construction equipment maintenance and repair or baseline mechanical knowledge combined with practical application skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
  • The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and/or other protective equipment.
  • The individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
  • The individual may be required to work long hours and/or weekends. Additionally, some out-of-town or overnight travel may be required.
  • The individual may be required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • The individual may occasionally be required to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, or sit for long periods.
  • The individual may be required to work in confined spaces, climb vertical ladders of a height of 6 ft. or greater, and/or elevated heights.
  • The individual may be required to lift objects with a minimum of 10 lbs. and a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
  • The individual may be required to perform repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in the performance of work.
