Summary:
Under direction of the Operations Manager, performs a number of support services to coordinate scheduling patients for surgery. The Perioperative Scheduler acts as liaison between patient, department staff and RUMC OR staff teams. The surgical scheduling coordinator exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Responsibilities:
1.Schedules, reschedules, or cancels surgical appointments.
2.Communicates with all surgical candidates to set up appointments, provide patients with information about pre-operative requirements, inform patients of surgical requirement timelines, and answers any insurance-related questions about surgical procedures.
3.Coordinates surgical scheduling information flow into and out of the clinic.
4.Maintains a direct communication line with the key OR staff.
5.Contacts various outside agencies to retrieve insurance preauthorization and other medical documentation needed.
6.Keeps an open line of communication to scheduled patients and medical staff to alleviate missing information for scheduled procedures.
7.Solves surgical scheduling problems by seeking out the appropriate people and resources.
8.Answers telephone calls efficiently and courteously.
9.Provides information as requested or routes calls appropriately.
10.Updates electronic medical record appropriately.
11.Works as part of the surgical scheduling team and accepts other duties as requested
12.Handles a variety of office details that involve action, including, but not limited to: retrieving and sending mail, preparation of surgical documents and packets, filing documentation into medical records, sending and receiving faxes, and creating duplicate copies of surgical forms.
13.Exemplifies professionalism by maintaining a courteous demeanor in all communications with departmental staff, clinical staff, physicians, and all outside visitors and contacts.
14.Performs duties to assist the medical staff independently at the direction of management.

Required Job Qualifications:
High School Diploma.
Manual dexterity, effective communication, precision and accuracy.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, effective communication, precision and accuracy; Epic software knowledge is an advantage.
Ability to communicate well with patients and all levels of staff.
Able to manage multiple tasks at one time.
Works well individually and as part of the team.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Certified Medical Assistant experience.
Three years of medical office experience.
Experience obtaining prior authorizations & knowledge of insurance authorization processes.
