Job Summary:
The Pre-Award Grant Specialist 2 provides overall pre-award administration and proposal development services to faculty and staff engaged in the conduct of sponsored research which may be basic, translational, and/or clinical. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing support for proposal identification, development, budgeting, and routing.
Assists with award and contract set up.
Facilitates sponsored award protocols in accordance with RUMC and sponsor regulations by working closely with the SPA.
Works with faculty on the comprehensive review of pre-award activities and submissions into the Rush Research Portal for proposal submissions and to facilitate project initiation.
Ensures timely and accurate pre-award application procedures, proposal routings, and submissions.
Assists with activities related to incoming and outgoing awards and contracts.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge and expertise in federal, state, and private agencies¡¦ regulations and policies.
Stays abreast of new laws and OMB circulars which affect sponsored program activities.
Maintains various databases, record-keeping systems, and all applicable project files to ensure program records are up to date.
Assists department leaders with pre-award policy and procedure development.
Collaborates on development and deployment of educational workshops on related policy and procedures of sponsoring agencies and sponsored project opportunities.
Develops, creates, and seeks out innovative ways to meet and exceed performance goals of pre-award functions.
Provides guidance to team members as appropriate.
Coordinates with department leadership regarding pre-award activities, issue resolution, and workload distribution.
Collaborates with post-award team lead to coordinate inter-team meetings to facilitate partnership between pre-award and post-award teams as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
3-5 years of work-related grants and contracts experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of federal rules and regulations relating to research grant and/or contract activity.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail, strong project management skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
Position requires professionalism, diplomacy, and a high degree of judgment, initiative, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work on a team.
Ability to work within strict deadlines, under pressure, and to prioritize.
