Description

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • A Design Build Estimator’s work environment is demanding and fast paced. In this position one will be required to conceptually develop a project from its schematic phase and follow it through to its completion. This positions work environment will include:
  • Mining and Identifying Potential Opportunities, new projects and new customers
  • Driving to job site locations or client’s offices on a moment’s notice
  • Making pivotal decisions on the spot information regarding pricing, electrical code, and design
  • Field/Job Site meetings are somewhat frequent with owners, Architects, and General Contractors
  • The work environment is fast paced and requires the ability to multi-task. A project deadline may require an individual to work extended hours to complete. We have high expectations and tight deadlines.
  • You may be required to fill in or pick up where other teammates have left due to illness, emergency or reassigned priority
  • A strong commitment to Rex Moore and its Vision, Values, Purpose and Mission must be prevalent in this position. A Design-Build Estimator represents the face and personality of Rex Moore in many situations and this should not be underestimated. Time communicating on the phone or via email with an internal or external client is extensive thus strong communication skills are required. A Design-Build Estimator is held accountable for all estimates from award to project closeout. You will receive input from many departments of Rex Moore and it will be your responsibility to determine how this information should be interpreted and utilized. DESCRIPTION:
Essential responsibilities:

  • Design and Estimate electrical projects, from conceptual architectural plans in order to negotiate/bid new electrical & telecommunications for work for Rex Moore Electrical Contractors and Engineers
  • Negotiate various types of electrical work with existing and new clients. This can be accomplished via phone, e-mail, or personal office visits which are the preferred method.
  • Once a project is awarded it is the Design Build Estimators responsibility to communicate the project design requirements to the engineering team and attend design meetings with the engineer, project manager and/or client.
  • Work with other departments (Engineering, Estimating, and Production) to ensure the project is engineered, estimated, and built smoothly and that all the essential players have the tools to be successful.
  • Communicate with other departments such as Engineering, Estimating, Production and Accounting in order to provide a complete and competitive bid.
  • Follow up calls to clients, to negotiate past estimated projects or future work.
  • Follow up on all proposals and determine how RMECE faired and document all findings
  • Maintain existing client relations as well as develop new customer relations
  • Work within a Team environment
  • Coordinate proper turnover between Design Build and Engineering and then from Engineering to Estimating and then finally from Estimating to Production. Obtain construction feedback during and at the end of the project from all departments to determine what changes need to be implemented on the next project.
  • Field/Job site meetings, with owners and owners reps, to sell us (Rex Moore)
  • Review, analyze and discuss labor rates and wages with Human Resources and other Design Build Estimators
  • Review, analyze and discuss project designs with the Engineering department
  • Perform multiple estimates at one time
  • Develop and analyze electrical equipment “vendor” bid packages
  • Develop strong relationships with vendors
  • Remain current with the latest city, state, and national codes and by-laws
  • Develop bid clarifications and value engineering submittals
  • Discuss the approach of a project with Rex Moore personnel who deal with a particular client.
  • Request, review and analyze Telecom Quotations
  • Review all estimates with at least one other team member to ensure mistakes are not made
  • Encompass and fully understand all aspects of each projects scope of work
  • Determine unit pricing for each project based on past experience with the client and historical data
  • Attend Client functions

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Cold calls to create more work for the current and future backlogs.
  • Assist in creating and implementing marketing tools and database in order to maintain current clients and create new relationships.
  • Attend Monday Morning Department Meetings
  • Attend project closeouts
  • Create Marketing brochures for high profile projects and review with supervisor
  • Work with other departments to assist in selling new or existing projects
  • Client involvement (Holiday parties, golf tournaments, and lunches)
  • Help develop new unit prices and updates to existing pricing
  • Assist in training Design Build Estimator 1
  • Attend Code Review Courses
  • Attend Lighting Review Courses
  • Attend Lunch and Learn venues to gain knowledge on new electrical products
  • Attend construction related functions where a representative from Rex Moore will be beneficial
  • Assist in development of new design build processes
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of the customer database.
  • Review, analyze and discuss “hard-bid” estimates with the Estimating department
  • Remain current with the latest technology in electrical construction and equipment

Preferred:

  • Hands on construction experience
  • General Understanding of foot-candle levels and how they apply to various structures
  • General Understanding of HVAC loads on a building and how they differ from various facilities
  • Be able to determine the average number of watts per square foot used for various facilities
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint
  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Professional Engineers License in the state of California
  • Computer based estimating program knowledge (Accubid, Conest, McComick)
  • Be able to analyze the current construction market and cycles

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position reports directly to the Engineering Director

CAREER ADVANCEMENT:
Career advancement at Rex Moore is possible with all positions, but not guaranteed, and could be within the current department as well as other departments within the company.

LOCATION:
Rex Moore has branch offices located in Sacramento, Fresno CA and Reno, NV.

COMPENSATION:
Rex Moore pays hourly/salary rates commensurate with each employee’s knowledge, experience and skill level.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have:

  • Knowledge of electrical installation methods
  • Conceptual estimating abilities
  • General Product knowledge.
  • General Product installation knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) for typical commercial and residential construction
  • Past experience in an Electrical Construction/Consulting company
  • Math skills, and problem solving ability.
  • Proficient in navigation within MS Windows current edition
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Typing Skills (Hunting and Pecking is not considered typing skills)
  • Strong Math Skills (Algebraic, Geometric, and Trigonometric)
  • General Computer Literacy
  • How to develop a One-Line diagrams and load calculations using the NEC
  • Be able to read electrical, mechanical, structural, and architectural plans
  • Strong Communication, Networking, and Negotiating Skills
  • Strong Sales and Marketing Skills
  • Strong Presentation Skills
  • Strong Organizational skills
  • Team Player (Get along well with others)
  • Knowledge of other trades involvement and responsibilities in construction.
  • Understanding of Electrical Theory
  • Construction knowledge and experience
