Description:

RPS has an opening for an early career to mid-level consultant with a focus on the ocean and coastal environments to join its Ocean Science division in South Kingstown, RI. We are seeking a motivated individual, preferably with consulting experience, in coastal and nearshore processes and excellent problem-solving and communication skills to join us in a role focused mainly on technical consulting, but including some aspects of project coordination, proposal writing, business development, and internal support related to hydrodynamics, water quality, sediment, permitting support, coastal protection and climate resilience, and other environmental projects in the coastal zone. Strong coding and numerical modeling experience and skills are necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Position Specific:

  • Execute a wide range of modeling studies of coastal and nearshore environmental processes, focused on hydrodynamics, sediment dispersion, water quality, coastal/riverine flooding, waves, air-sea interactions, extreme value analysis, and more.
  • Familiarity with researching, gathering, and preparing datasets for use in modeling, performing data analysis, reviewing, and processing model results, with a focus on QA/QC.
  • Develop reports and presentations in preparation of permits and regulatory documents.
  • Provide support in the development of proposals.
  • Client communications and public presentation

Minimum Professional Qualifications and Requirements:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in marine science, engineering, or related field
  • 2-5 years of experience in environmental consulting

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of coastal processes (e.g., waves, circulation, sediment transport)
  • Demonstrated record of analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience developing or applying numerical models to study coastal and nearshore processes.
  • Experience with programming languages for time series and geospatial data analysis (e.g., Python, MATLAB, ArcGIS)
  • Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as cloud computing
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and reporting skills. Science journal articles preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; capable of presenting complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with focus on teamwork and collaboration
  • Self-motivated with ability to work on highly dynamic and interactive projects both independently and as part of a team.
  • Expectation to further develop skills and advance technical capabilities.
