Description

 Roswell Park Care Network is looking to hire a Phone Triage Registered Nurse in our busy Williamsville, NY offices. 

The Phone Triage Registered Nurse plans and provides nursing interventions for individuals with cancer and cancer related health care problems; treats human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as patient care, health teaching, and health counseling; works closely with providers to communicate with patients regarding their treatment plans, side effects, prescription refills, etc. 

Brief Description of Duties:

  • Adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements and professional standards; demonstrate thorough knowledge and compliance of all QOPI certification standards and implement all standards to practice
  • Answers clinical calls and/or receives messages via voicemail or the EMR patient portal
  • Responds to patients calls by using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation)
  •  Precise and thorough documentation including but not limited to; the purpose of the call, nursing interventions, and follow up planning
  • Strong assessment skills are required to perform telephone nursing assessment that includes the holistic needs of each patient in the planning and delivery of care to effectively communicate with the provider or advise patients. 
  •  Provide health education to patients and their supporting network demonstrating emotional intelligence and strong communication skills 
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of, and indications for, therapeutic agents and adverse effects for treatments administered within the practice
  • Ensures compliance with Institute policies/procedures; influences and/or establishes department policies, procedures, and standards of care as appropriate for the practice.
  • Ensures that patient safety is a priority goal while communicating with patients and caregivers as well as with their communication with the appropriate provider.
  • Communicates with other professional disciplines to ensure that the plan of nursing intervention is consistent with and integrated with the total treatment plan 
  • Confers with nursing staff and other members of the healthcare team regarding telephone communication of the condition of patients and/or any unusual events or problems to ensure continuity of care 
  • Schedules patient appointments and/or coordinates with scheduling team for treatments to include but not limited to, chemotherapy infusion, iron infusion, hydration, injections, etc.
  • Adheres to the RPCI Oncology, PC standard for Employee Conduct
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Requirements

  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York 
  • The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time oncology nursing experience at the site of employment 
  • Experience with EMR software (Medent/Onco/Allscripts) 

Must have knowledge of Windows and Office software
