JOB SUMMARY AND DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

Position: GEAR UP Site Coordinator

Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Superintendent

Royal School District

Classification: Classified, Exempt

Schedule: Position Start Beginning of August 2023 School Year 220 days/8hr day 

Salary: $50,000-$55,000

7:30 am to 4:00pm pm Flexible schedule to accommodate program. 

Summary Description:

GEAR UP Site Director will manage the GERA UP program budget and fiscal activities for the purpose of ensuring GEAR UP Budget and fiscal compliance with both GEAR UP requirements and for effectively and timely complying with District, State and or Federal fiscal and accounting standards. Director will work collaboratively with principals, staff, students, and other agencies/colleges to further the awareness of college preparation requirements and academic preparedness of all students in the GEAR UP program. Director works with students to individualize college planning and preparation. Coordinates with parents and teachers to develop an academic enrichment program for educational advancement. Works with teachers to identify at-risk students in need of academic support services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful program management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill working with adolescents and/or “at-risk” populations
  • Bachelor Degree Preferred, AA degree, or successful experience in GEAR UP Program
  • Bilingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to, and experience working and communicating with, students and families of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in an educational setting, counseling, social work, or other related fields preferred.
  • Knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of Middle School programs, High School programs, state and local graduation requirements, and post-secondary entrance qualifications.
  • Successful experience working independently.
  • Successful experience in teamwork and collegial group dynamics.
  • Excellent computer technology skills including, word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet research, and ability to learn and navigate related software.
  • Ability to encourage students to participate and be engaged in the program.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines/timelines.
  • Expected to model appropriate professional behavior, attend work as scheduled.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to meet program schedules.
  • Valid Washington Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance.

CLEARANCES REQUIRED: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

 Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Supervise GEAR UP personnel
  • Maintain accurate necessary records and data for program verification and tracking purposes.
  • Manage the GEAR UP program budget and fiscal activities
  • Ensuring GEAR UP Budget and fiscal compliance
  • Oversee all-in-kind program requirements for the purpose of ensuring that the GEAR UP Program meets the requirements with Cost-Share.
  • Create work plans and budgets
  • Work to fulfill overall Grant Requirements and Work Plan Items.
  • Meet with students to discuss career goals and expectations.
  • Assist with FAFSA/WASFA applications; filling out scholarships
  • Researching and becoming familiar with post-secondary institutions.
  • Assist students with college applications.
  • Monitor student grades and provide academic interventions as needed to help maintain student achievement.
  • Use software programs such as Skyward, Homeroom, Career Planner
  • Familiar with GEAR UP expected outcomes and assist with and develop strategies to achieve goals.
  • Meet with parents at convenient times as needed to describe the program, provide information and follow up.
  • Work with relevant agencies and colleges to provide college planning for students in areas including, but not limited to, career options and goals, portfolio development, personal statements, WOIS, financial planning, FAFSA assistance.
  • Works collaboratively with District program staff to coordinate efforts.
  • Works with principals to execute education programs to continue student academic development during before/after school and summer programs.
  • Work collaboratively to continue development of programs for extended day learning (before/after school, evenings, and/or weekends)
  • Coordinates recruitment activities to provide information and support for families – workshops regarding school/home-related learning activities, appropriate for homework assistance, school regulations, and testing.
  • Implement programs to increase student eligibility and attendance at college.
