Description

Job Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for safely operating road grading construction equipment (road grader, bulldozers, loaders, excavators, etc.) that are used forshaping and fine grading sub grades, base materials, shoulder, slopes, and cutting ditches. May be asked to perform additional tasks which may includemove heavy materials, excavate gravel and earth, spread and level asphalt.

The incumbent will be required to fill in as needed with other jobs at work site during down times (IE. Equipment Operator, Laborer, etc). Typical schedules are Monday Friday, with weekends required as needed.

Incumbent is expected to have excellent attendance and communication skills, possess the ability to build lasting business relationships, and exhibit professionalism.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a description of the major responsibilities of this position. These job duties are subject to change according to job requirements. This is a summary and is not meant to include all activities that may be required to successfully perform in this job.

  • Perform and report on, daily safety and maintenance checks
  • Safely operate equipment to complete road grading tasks: shaping and fine grading sub grades, base materials, shoulder, slopes, and cutting ditches
  • Operate equipment of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Operateheavy equipmentin compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers
  • Work with and assist the crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, excavator, or front-end loader as needed
  • Place, remove or maintain underground utilities as directed. This includes but is not limited to carrying pipe, bags of material, and other heavy items, jack hammering, shoveling, tamping, and installing pipe, duct, or cable as needed
  • Assist in restoring worksite at completion of daily work
  • Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner. Collect and dispose of scrap, excess materials, and refuse
  • Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation
  • Notify the General Superintendent/ Supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Work under multiple time constraints
  • Navigate driveways, alleyways, lots, high traffic roadways and may operate in tight overhead environments while on industrial routes
  • Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to successfully perform this job

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Previous experience in civil utilities preferred
  • Previous experience driving heavy equipment in a construction environment

Physical Demands:

  • Requires pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to an environment, which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements throughout the workday
