Title: Learning Disability Specialist- Transition

Unit: MCCC, Grade 6 (Academic Coordinator)

Reports To: Assistant Dean of Accessibility & Title IX Coordinator

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean of Accessibility and Title IX Coordinator, this position will focus on managing and implementing the Knowledge, Enrichment, and Engagement (KEE) program at Roxbury Community College. KEE is a specialized program that provides students who learn, live, and work with complex intellectual, developmental, and autism-based diagnoses. The Learning Disability Specialist - Transition will partner with college employees, families, public agencies, and school districts to recruit, admit, and engage students in a two-year program. This program will fulfill the College's obligations to provide pathways for students with the described profiles to engage in a meaningful college experience. In this program, students will develop social, academic, financial, and vocational skills, emphasizing identifying accessible competitive employment by partnering with external employers and training programs. This program will focus on working with students on IEPs until age 22 and those older than twenty-two and/or out of the public education system who do not have a degree to qualify for federal financial aid. The individual in this role will work closely with faculty and staff to foster an inclusive and equitable environment for students enrolled in this program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research, design, and implement a program rooted in Life Centered Curriculum, Think College, and the Massachusetts Work-Based Learning Plan.
  • Manage application process and determination of selective admission for candidates; process applications, conduct interviews, and implement class shadowing.
  • Partner with the Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services to review documentation, determine appropriate accommodations, and communicate accommodations with instructors.
  • Identify, develop, and structure internships on and off campus to provide students with vocational exploration and training that match goals established by Person Centered Planning, Think College practices, and the Work Based Learning Plan.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for interest and in partnership for KEE with MRC, DDS, BPS and CPS.
  • Serve as point person for interest from community members, school districts, and state agencies.
  • Manage grant renewal application process through the Department of Higher Education.
  • Serve as the primary representative in developing an urban consortium for MAICEI in Boston and assist with the implementation of the consortium.
  • Provide support in coordinating the RCC Partner Leadership Team (PLT) and required meetings with DHE to provide data and updates on program progress.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Accessibility and Title IX to provide the campus community with education and training on teaching and engaging students with the described profiles.
  • Dedication to fostering an accessible and inclusive for all students.
Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in special education, Psychology, or a closely related field with five (5) years of experience and/ or training that includes teaching students with learning disabilities, autism, and cognitive disabilities, administering/interpreting educational and psychological tests, curriculum development, and program administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Must be proficient in both oral and written expression.
  • Ability to work with a diverse constituency, including students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Occasional nights and weekends may be required.
Additional Information:

This is a full-time, MCCC position (37.5 hrs), with full benefits.
Compensation: Starting Salary for this position is $64,615 with a per the MCCC Grade 6 Professional Staff Salary Grid, salary is commensurate with Education and Experience in accordance with the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
