This position is responsible for providing leadership to manufacturing sites, within the molding and extrusion areas. This position will help build internal and external manufacturing process competencies critical to the long-term success of Baxter. These include manufacturing process innovation, standardization, make/buy analysis, DFM/DFA and process development/validation/implementation activities in support of our product lifecycle, continuous improvement initiatives and technical support of current product/process issues.

What you'll be doing

  • Helps drive the overall strategy for Process and Technology Development and Deployment focused on innovation and establishment of best practices for the global function.
  • Responsible for technical leadership of multi-million dollar cross-functional projects
  • Mentor the team of Engineers to enable a culture of innovation, technical expertise, service orientation and high performance.
  • Establish tooling that support reduced capital spend, superior quality, cost position and quick time to market objectives
  • Develop and continuously improve process specific standards that define how team will support tool development, deployment and maintenance of tools at internal locations and external suppliers.
  • Applies innovative techniques in equipment and processes through new technology introduction
  • Support New Product Evaluation / Support New Product Development team through analysis of new parts/products for tooling and technology capability. Work with product development teams to optimize part design for manufacturability while meeting or improving part specifications, production Key Process Indicators and cost optimization goals.
  • Complete tooling risk analysis using tools such as FMEA, Mold Flow, etc. to reduce potential for tooling failures. Independently, or in collaboration with other technical leaders, engages in the conceptualization and planning of new technologies and production solutions.
  • Support development of quotations and capital expense management. Monitor and assess subcontracted mold designs ensuring they conform to Baxter standards/specifications. Facilitate support of First off tool, Factory Acceptance Testing, or other trials as needed by NPD or Process Improvement teams.
  • Assist the process engineers during First Article Inspection (FAI) runs and other supplier development activities.
  • Work with Tooling Vendor or tool rooms to address outstanding tooling issues as needed. Provide ongoing support of current processes and equipment.
  • Support plant teams in the resolution of tooling and process related issues. Support Production/Plant engineering in the design and implementation of equipment for continuous improvement and lean manufacturing deployment.

What you'll bring

  • BS in relevant engineering discipline with 10 years experience, or 15-20 years experience of Tooling/Molding experience with relevant Associates Degree
  • Previous work with Medical Grade Plastics and Processes preferred
  • Direct experience or advanced training applicable to the processing of thermoplastics and/or extruded materials in a production environment.
  • Ability to design and influence outside of immediate scope of responsibility.
  • Experience in supporting product and process development through the lifecycle of the product and associated assets.
  • Extensive multi-functional team experience, including technical and non-technical work.
  • Ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews without assistance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use and application of tools such as Process FMEA, Control Strategies, modeling and simulation software, statistical methods, problem analysis and resolution, materials science, design of experiments.

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $136,000-$187,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors.
