Position Summary: The Special Education Coordinator for BACS and BCES, in collaboration with the special education manager, will coordinate the compliance procedures, guidelines and process to meet compliance and regulatory requirements.The coordinator will ensure the timelines and signatures are maintained for annual IEP’s, evaluation reports and will ensure that related service providers are accurately represented.The coordinator will work closely with special education teachers to support the assurance of deadlines and process. This is a 11 month position and will be supervised by the special education manager.

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate the Special Education Hard and Electronic Files for Compliance
    • Maintain paper files
    • Maintain compliance on each file
    • Ensure timelines are in compliance
    • Review IEP’s for legal compliance, along with the special education manager
    • Update all electronic documentation and data
    • Follow up with ER/RR following the special education manager guidance
    • Assist with speech, OT, PT coordination of an ER or RR
  • Early Intervention Transition to Kindergarten (School Specific)
    • Process beginning of the year reevaluations/evaluations needed for incoming K students. Special Education Manager will provide the names of students needing evaluations
    • Assist in the completion of transition IEP’s
    • Include speech/OT/PT as necessary
  • Meeting Attendance
    • Bi-weekly Special Education team meetings
    • Participation in monthly professional development
    • All school wide meetings and trainings
    • 03 with SpEd manger
  • Support Special Education Teachers 
    • Ensure all IEPs are completed within required timeline
    • Ensure that IEP meetings are being held, and that efforts are made to include parents and document those efforts
    • Assist in the execution of IEP meetings and attend IEP meetings
    • Review IEP’s for compliance in coordination with the special education manager
  • Data entry
    • record new special education data in power school as IEP meetings/revisions occur
    • Update all tracking systems created, in coordination with the special education manager

Additional responsibilities:

  • Participate in school wide events and parent teacher meetings
  • Participate in AM and PM duty posts
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications


Qualifications: 

Education and Experience: 

  • B.A./B.S. degree from accredited institution;
  • 2-3 years of years of special education experience in schools, preferably in urban education
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience with working under timelines and compliance 
  • All employees must be able to provide Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check Clearance (Act 34), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151), Federal Bureau of Investigation Record Check Clearance (Act 114), and Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Clearance (Act 168) before starting work on campus
