Job Description- Position Summary: The Director of Innovation leads the vision, strategy, and direction of the innovation process within Rotex. As a key member of the Executive Committee (EC), the role will challenge the status quo and develop new value-add products for our customers. Work You’ll Do: In collaboration with the Director of Business Development, use understanding of current products to identify and prioritize design modifications, value engineering opportunities, and/or development of completely new products. Leverage stage gate practices to ensure cross functional collaboration in identifying and developing new products which maximize competitiveness, quality, and value. Conduct and leverage “value engineering” methodologies to enhance product(s) for manufacturability and quality. Identify capital needs to achieve productivity improvement and revenue growth objectives and build corresponding business case. Grow innovation engineering talent through training, role rotations, customer interactions, presentations skills, coaching on analysis and engineering processes and exposure to new technologies. Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility. Drive enhancements to product performance by supporting manufacturing and quality functions to address field, production and warranty issues and update and enhance product designs as required. Develop innovative product experimentation processes, with a willingness to iterate and progress technological development through frequent and fast failures, leading to product disruption and success. Develop creative approaches to streamlining design and validation processes while still addressing critical commercial, technical and business risks. Drive change in the organization through development of modular, standardized approaches to product design to simplify the business. Work closely with the VP of HOM/Design Engineering to optimize processes for product cost management and product specification fulfillment. Identify ways to enhance Rotex’s customer experiences through leveraging IOT solutions. Challenge material selection assumptions, remaining knowledgeable about the latest material developments and availability in the industry. Hold team accountable to milestone, cost and revenue targets associated with products to be launched. Leverage 3P (Production, Preparation, Process) methodologies to rapidly innovate and leverage cross functional collaboration in the innovation process. Minimum (Required) Qualifications: Education and Experience BA/BS degree, Engineering preferred. Master’s degree is preferable. Minimum of 10 years in product development and launch processes. Demonstrated expertise in industrial machinery engineering fundamentals. Experience with stage gate processes or similar methodology to identify customer needs and launch value-producing products. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Breakthrough innovation approach with a strong sense of ownership demonstrated in past experiences. Proven ability to develop talent and instill a creative, innovation culture. Experience implementing large scale initiatives and tracking results. Demonstrated ability to work across all levels and lead through influence. Experience in required processes to ensure all global safety standards are met and necessary actions are embedded throughout the entire organization. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to recommend alternative solutions and translate complex concepts into simplified and understandable examples. Experience managing a large diverse team across multiple business units and geographies. Experience upgrading teams, processes, and systems as well as problem solving skills. Technically proficient in all areas of engineering and manufacturing. Excellent leadership skills, as evidenced by a track record of hiring, retaining, developing and motivating top engineering talent. Ability to translate a business strategy into specific team objectives, breaking down organizational boundaries through collaboration, building strong relationships based on trust with all levels of employees, and a track record of personal engagement with other members of leadership. Effective at leveraging global outsourced partners to ensure on-time fulfillment of engineering requirements and maximizing concentration of engineering talent on core, higher-end technology challenges Identifies strategic opportunities for engineering/development and demonstrates an ability to think beyond the current situation and conceptualize innovative and visionary approaches to broad business challenges. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, changing environment. Well-rounded in engineering, negotiating, financial, and business acumen, as well as verbal, and written communication skills. Skillful in planning and analyzing the resource requirements of an Engineering and Development. Solid track record of mentoring and developing employees. Well-versed with DFM, DFA, and FMEA processes and tools.
