Rosies Recovery Center is Hiring an Addictions Counselor Near Parkville, MD

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Addictions Counselor with expertise in completing the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessment and treatment planning. As an Addictions Counselor, you will provide professional counseling services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Your primary responsibility will be to assess clients' addiction severity using the ASAM criteria, develop personalized treatment plans, and provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to support their recovery journey.

*Please note that this is a Fee for Service 1099 contractor position.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct ASAM assessments: Utilize the ASAM criteria to assess clients' addiction severity and determine appropriate levels of care. Collect comprehensive information on clients' substance use history, medical conditions, mental health status, and social support systems to develop accurate treatment plans.
  2. Develop individualized treatment plans: Collaborate with clients to develop personalized treatment plans based on the ASAM assessment results. Set achievable goals and outline specific interventions to address clients' unique needs, strengths, and challenges.
  3. Provide counseling and therapy: Conduct individual and group counseling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address clients' substance use disorders. Facilitate discussions on relapse prevention, coping skills development, emotional regulation, and motivation enhancement.
  4. Implement relapse prevention strategies: Assist clients in developing effective relapse prevention plans, identifying triggers, and implementing coping mechanisms to maintain long-term recovery. Provide education on the effects of substance use and strategies for managing cravings and urges.
  5. Offer psychoeducation and support: Provide clients and their families with accurate information on addiction, its impact, and available resources. Support clients in understanding the physiological, psychological, and social aspects of addiction to facilitate insight and change.
  6. Coordinate care and referrals: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, psychiatrists, social workers, and community resources, to ensure comprehensive care for clients. Facilitate referrals to appropriate treatment programs, support groups, and community services.
  7. Maintain accurate records: Document all client interactions, ASAM assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines. Ensure confidentiality and privacy of client records.
  8. Stay updated on addiction research and best practices: Stay informed about current research, evidence-based practices, and emerging trends in addiction counseling. Attend professional training, workshops, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills.
  9. Adhere to ethical and legal standards: Uphold professional ethics, maintaining confidentiality, respect, and professionalism in all interactions with clients and colleagues. Comply with relevant laws and regulations governing addiction counseling.
  10. Engage in self-care: Prioritize self-care practices to maintain personal well-being and prevent burnout. Seek supervision and support when needed.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution. Relevant certifications or coursework in addiction counseling is desirable.
  2. Licensure and Certification: Valid license or certification to practice as an Addictions Counselor, such as Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), or equivalent, in the state or region of employment. ASAM certification is required.
  3. Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience providing addiction counseling services, including conducting ASAM assessments and developing treatment plans. Experience working in a substance abuse treatment setting is preferred.
  4. Knowledge and skills:

- Expertise in completing ASAM assessments and utilizing the ASAM criteria.

- Strong understanding of addiction dynamics, withdrawal symptoms, and treatment modalities.

- Proficiency in evidence-based counseling techniques and interventions.

- Knowledge of community resources and support systems for individuals with substance use disorders.

- Excellent communication and active listening skills.

- Empathy, compassion, and non-judgmental attitude.

  1. Computer proficiency: Familiarity with electronic health record systems and basic computer skills.
  2. Interpersonal skills: Ability to establish rapport and build therapeutic relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds. Strong collaboration and teamwork abilities.

Must be licensed in the state of Maryland
