Purpose

Lead the technical and continuous improvement team for a region. Work with all levels in the organization to help with compliance, goal setting, optimizing systems, improving material usage, quality, and other processes to drive improvement in safety, bottom line results, reliability, and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement in safety by performing behavioral based safety observations and safety inspections with management while visiting facilities
  • Through data analysis, being up-to-date on industry developments, and working with venders and Company personnel, identify opportunities for improvement and optimization and empower plant personnel at all levels to realize continuous gains through the development of processes and standards that facilitate the success of improvement initiatives
  • Build, implement, and audit Quality Assurance, driving ownership to plant team members and QA leaders responsible for checking the health of the program to allow time to spend on continuous improvement projects
  • Develop benchmark statistics in key metrics and make the data visible in real-time to allow team members to easily understand results of their efforts to drive continuous improvement and ownership to the floor level
  • Develop, implement and manage a new product development process that incorporates customer needs, sales requests, and plant abilities with a focus on adding value to the enterprise, avoiding unnecessary distractions, and continuously improve bottom line results
  • Develop templates for the planning processes for supported operations
  • Support and continue to strengthen the acceptance and implementation of the client centric process through clear communication of performance expectations and accountability
  • Support all KPI development and implementation throughout the region
  • Work closely with operations on any process improvement plans or capital projects
  • Work closely with facility Technical and CI Managers in developing a common testing protocol and system for all new product lines
  • Provide technical and business knowledge support to operations
  • Oversee final major product claims and resolutions for all regional operations
  • Monitor, research, and understand implications to the business and recommend actions on regulatory legislation, standards and issues
  • EWP-May have direct facility responsibility

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Wood Sciences, Chemistry or Engineering
  • Other academic backgrounds acceptable with five (5) or more years of related work experience
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in process engineering, quality management, continuous improvement, industrial engineering or industrial management
  • Ability to build teams, and assess and develop skills of team members
  • Strong analytical and math skills
  • Demonstrate problem solving techniques and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to lead teams and facilitate meetings
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, statistical quality engineering, inspection, auditing, calibration, data analysis techniques, and quality cost principles
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects to meet schedule and project requirements
  • Professional level competency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Intermediate competency in statistical process control (SPC)
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet schedule and project requirements
  • Excellent written, listening and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively implement change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in wood products manufacturing
  • Knowledge of CARB, EPA, and DEQ
