Mechanical Shop and Engine Laboratory Technician

As a Mechanical Shop and EngineLaboratory Technician, you will provide laboratory and technical support forlaboratories in the Mechanical Engineering Department.

• You will manage the MachineTool Lab I & II, Fabrication Lab, and possibly the IC Engine Lab whilemaintaining safe working areas and equipment in the Department labs;
• assist / instructfaculty and students on the use, operation, and safety of equipment and toolsin the laboratory; and implement teaching aids for use in labs;

assist facultyand students on research, Capstone, and independent projects; consult withfaculty members on equipment modifications or needs for use in demonstrations.

You will gather information onequipment, set up, maintain, calibrate, test, operate, and repair laboratoryequipment and computer systems;

clean, maintain, and prepare supplies and workareas; order tooling, welding, and engine lab supplies;set up and validate a variety of laboratory experiments or procedures.

Otherduties may be assigned as a Department or Institute need arises.

Qualified candidates will have an Associate’sdegree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school. Minimum oftwo years professional work experience required.

Must have proficiency withmanual milling machines, lathes, surface grinders and other machine shopequipment and have a basic mechanical aptitude.

Must be able to work andcommunicate with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
