Job Description

As a Family/Social Service Coordinator you play a crucial role in supporting residents within your community. You have the opportunity to make a positive impact by conducting assessments of resident and family needs, developing individualized service plans, and providing information and referrals to appropriate social services. Your coordination of community events, afterschool, and summer activities also cultivates a sense of belonging and promotes social connections among residents. Working closely with the community management, you help ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, as well as a thriving and supportive environment.

This job is full-time, in person at our Grace West Manor apartment community located 301 Irvine Turner Blvd, Newark, NJ 07108.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr based upon factors including but not limited to related experience and time in the industry.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming New Residents: Reach out to new residents within two weeks of move-in to introduce the RSC's role in the community management team and share more about resident services.
  • Collaborating with Community Management: Work together to engage residents, address safety or behavioral concerns, and promote housing stability and to prevent family displacement.
  • Completing Assessments: Conduct comprehensive, non-clinical assessments of residents for wellness, safety, and social needs or interests.
  • Resident Support: Provide information on resources, services, and programs available in the community, and make referrals to service providers as needed, including help with follow up and delivery of services.
  • Program Development: Collaborate with residents to co-create and organize on-site programs for children aged 3 - 18 including pre-school, after school and graduation preparation programs and events.
  • Program Development: Facilitate career planning and advancement events for adults (18- 40) including resume development, interview preparation, etc.
  • Cultivating Resident Leadership: Empower residents to lead and establish programmatic priorities through inclusive and participatory decision-making.
  • Building Relationships: Develop key relationships with community agencies and service providers, including resources like schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, local public safety departments, and healthcare and education institutions.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention services to residents in need, including referrals to appropriate community agencies or emergency services.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and complete records of resident interactions, services provided, and program participation, as well as an up-to-date resource directory with all local service providers. Submit required HUD Annual “Standards for Success” Report.
  • Evaluation: Collect feedback from residents and evaluate the effectiveness of services and programs, making necessary adjustments to meet the changing needs of the community.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in Social Work with children aged 3-18 and adults aged 18-40
  • Minimum of 1 year of documentation experience
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred qualifications:

  • Masters degree in social work
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Skills in family counseling, Trauma Informed Care, group facilitation, and substance misuse
  • Experience working in residence services
