RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE NEW YORK is Hiring a Family Room Coordinator, Montefiore Near New York, NY

The Family Room Coordinator supports the Montefiore Family Room in the Bronx, NY for Ronald McDonald House New York (RMH-NY). The Family Room Coordinator serves as a key component of the Programs team to advance the organization’s mission to serve caregivers and increase community knowledge and engagement. This position reports to the Family Room Manager.

The hourly range for this role will be $24 - $26. This will be an on-site schedule Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM.

Role/Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Complete all Family Room operations: assisting and supporting guests, executing facility maintenance, enforcing operating procedures, develop and implement of programs and services collaborate with volunteers
  • Uphold policies concerning eligibility of people permitted to use the Family Room; imperative to maintain communication with key medical staff and relevant personnel as well as parents/legal guardians of pediatric patients
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including families, donors, hospital management and other RMH-NY internal key relationships
  • As an extension of Ronald McDonald House New York, this individual will represent the organization and will work closely with the House team and hospital management
  • Be consistent with the mission of RMH-NY in providing support and service to guests in specific pediatric departments: NICU, PICU, Pediatrics, Behavioral Health
  • In collaboration with hospital volunteer programs and RMH-NY Volunteer Coordinator, ensure recruitment, screening, training and evaluation of volunteers to support Family Room operations

Responsibilities:

  • Go to or call units served to encourage caregivers’ attendance and activity in the Family Room
  • Develop and execute non-clinical programs/events to increase family engagement and build awareness
  • Provide supplies for ongoing operation of the Family Room (snacks, refreshments, cups/napkins, laundry and cleaning supplies) daily
  • Maintain a Log Book and or digital log sheet that oversees the Day-to-Day Operations and record quantitative measures of the impact of families served
  • Support Programs Team in special events at the Family Room and areas of the hospital
  • Report matters of concern in a timely manner to the Director of Programs and participate in the resolution
  • Collaborate with Family Room team at NYC Health/Montefiore Hospital
  • Be attentive and observe of all parts of the space/facility to ensure a safe and secure environment for all staff and guests. 
  • Serve as a resource for families, guests, staff, volunteers, donors and other community members

Qualifications & Competencies

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree (Health Services or related) preferred 
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a guest facing role; hotel, hospital, special events or hospitality experience a plus
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends given the current schedule is subject to change
  • Ability to remain professional yet compassionate when interacting with families in crisis 
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office skills (Excel/Word/PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills; ability to maintain a clean and welcoming environment for guests
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; positive and respectful interpersonal skills
  • Hospitable demeanor when interacting with caregivers, medical staff or visitors
  • Ability to collaborate and participate as a flexible, responsive team member 
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions problem solve, and adhere to priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively listen, evaluate and react to sensitive members, provider and internal/external clients
  • Experience working with children, people with disabilities or illness a plus
  • Bi-lingual preferred (English/French/Creole/Spanish)

  • Work for this job is performed mostly in an office setting within a hospital. Some outdoor work is required. 
  • This is largely a sedentary role however the ability to lift (up to 20 lbs.) boxes of supplies, open storage cabinets and bend or stand to serve caregivers is required
  • This position may require standing or walking for extensive periods of time for major events

  • The office for this job is located in a hospital, particularly where pediatric patients are undergoing active medical treatment. For some RMH-NY patients, medical treatment may include radiation therapy. While radiation therapy is never administered in RMH-NY facilities, there is the potential for some radioactive material to be present in patients who have undergone radiation therapy. Based on radiation measurements performed throughout RMH-NY, it is not expected that individuals working for RMH-NY will receive radiation doses that would exceed the general public limit (100 millirem per year).
  • The office for this job is located in hospitals staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some holidays, weekends, evening hours may be necessary for this job.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Noise levels often increase with activities and special events for guests.
  • This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Some local/day travel will be necessary for the role.
  • Some domestic travel may be required with overnight stays.
